Johnson Service Group has a part-time opportunity for a Lab Technician, in San Jose, CA. Great opportunity for a college student or someone interested in a part time (20 hours - week) position with a background in Chemistry. This job requires someone who will spend much time in the field, collecting water samples from a variety of specified locations.
The successful candidate will have:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
and 2 years of chemical, biological, or bacteriological laboratory experience. OR
Twelve (12) semester units of college level course work in physical, natural, or earth sciences may substitute for two (2) years of experience.
and possession of a valid California Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record.
The job will include duties including:
1. Make field observations at sample collection points; record data and maintain field notes.
2. Set up, calibrate, operate, and perform minor maintenance and repair on a variety of laboratory equipment and instruments; perform required safety and calibration checks of equipment and instruments; clean, wash, and assemble all laboratory apparatus and glassware; maintain the laboratory in a safe and clean condition.
3. Collect influent, effluent, and turnout water samples from specified locations on a daily basis; make nonroutine sample collections as requested; conduct routine field tests on samples and/or prepare samples for storage and transportation.
4. Conduct routine physical, chemical, and bacteriological analysis of samples.
5. Prepare standard chemical solutions, reagents, stains, and bacteriological media for use in testing water quality; ensure adequate supply of standard media solutions.
6. Compile and record data onto work sheets, logs, and forms; enter and retrieve data from the laboratory database and prepare various reports.
7. Ensure adherence to safe work practices; maintain safety procedures and binders; ensure proper disposal of hazardous waste and chemicals.
8. Assist chemists and other laboratory staff with specialized research projects.
9. Ability to lift sample coolers and work outdoors in various summer and winter weather conditions.
Pay: $34 - Hr.
