About us
The people we all rely on to make the world go round – they rely on Thales. In a fast-changing and increasingly unpredictable world full of opportunities, people come to us with big ambitions – to make your life better and more secure. Our employees, who are part of a unique and varied team with many different fields of expertise and a wide range of talents and cultures, develop and deliver outstanding high-tech solutions. Thales employs 81,000 highly talented people in 68 countries. Almost 3,000 of these are based in the Netherlands. We are one of the largest high-tech employers in the field of security and protection.
We help our customers think smarter and act faster in the fields of defense, aerospace, aviation technology and cyberspace, to manage and control their increasingly complex processes and make the best possible business decisions. This is why we play a leading role in digital transformation, focusing on Artificial Intelligence, Big Data & Data Analysis, Connectivity, Mobility, Internet of Things, Cyber Security.
In the Netherlands, we are located in four cities: Huizen, Delft, Eindhoven and Hengelo (HQ). Together with an extensive ecosystem of knowledge partners, customers and suppliers, we develop radar systems and do research and development in collaboration with Platform Nederland Radarland (Defense, TNO, Thales Nederland and TU Delft) and the Dutch Radar Centre of Expertise (D-RACE), a strategic alliance between Thales Nederland and TNO. We also develop combat management systems, cyber security solutions, transportation systems, communications equipment for land forces, cryogenic cooling solutions and perform R&D for radar technology (in collaboration with TU Delft).
About the team
The department Advanced Development & Studies Sensors (ADS Sensors) operates from Delft, co-located with its twin team for Systems, the Advanced Development & Studies Systems. Together, they are the foundation of Thales Nederland’s innovation push into sensors and systems. ADS Sensors and ADS Systems are an integral part of the Technical Directorate in the Naval domain of Thales Netherlands.
The department is a young, diverse, open and creative group of highly skilled engineers with strong analytical foundation where a lot of freedom is given for defining one’s own activities. ADS Sensors has two focus areas. One focus area is on the development of concepts and algorithms from low (2) to mid (5) technical readiness level (TRL) for the design and integration of radar systems and other sensors, typically acting as part of a complete integrated defence system. The second focus area is the application of integrated topside design (ITD) studies at mid to high TRLs, analysing the Electro-Magnetic (EM) effects (EMI and EMC) between and to multiple combat system elements, such as radiation hazards, EMI/EMC and other potential operational constraints, typically for complex naval topsides for future naval ships as well as existing ones. This work is done together with combat system integrators, shipyards and end-users. For low to mid TRLs, the most important tasks and responsibilities of the department are applied research, feasibility studies, system concept design and engineering of novel radar technologies and demonstrators of those technologies. The execution of the work is done in strong collaboration with our HQ in Hengelo, as well as with external partners like the TU Delft, University Twente, TNO, and other (inter)national knowledge institutions to serve national, European and NATO customers.
For our department in Delft (planned to move to Amsterdam by January 2027), we are looking for an enthusiastic and driven
