About the team you are joining
The Technology Standards and Data Modeling team,
within IATA’s Information and Data (I&D) division, is responsible for
supporting the Airline industry’s shift toward modern digital communication
standards by developing and maintaining IATA’s Airline Industry Data Model
(AIDM) as the main enabler of industry messaging standards development.
You will define
business and data requirements and help align data models across aviation
industry value streams and functions. You will also evolve the AIDM based on
industry standards and ensure that IATA’s enterprise data model stays
consistent with the industry‑agreed vocabulary and common integrated data
model.
What your day would be like
- Model business and data requirements and develop associated data exchange specifications for industry standards definition and ensure that proposed amendments to standards are interoperable and fully integrated within the Airline Industry Data Model (AIDM).
- Design, develop, maintain, and optimize conceptual, logical, and physical data models in alignment with enterprise architecture and data strategy.
- Translate detailed business and functional requirements into normalized (OLTP), dimensional (OLAP), and integration‑oriented data models supporting scalable data platforms
- Define and enforce enterprise data modeling standards including naming conventions, data definitions, domain models, and data type governance to ensure cross-system consistency and interoperability.
- Collaborate with the industry and internal data teams to design data flows, integration patterns, and target‑state data architecture. Support data engineering teams by troubleshooting data‑model–related issues, optimizing schema designs, and reverse‑engineering models from relational and non‑relational platforms.
- Deliver training and consulting sessions, supported by clear training materials, to help industry members and colleagues use modeling tools, environments, guidelines, and methodologies. Provide hands‑on support to ensure proper understanding and adoption of data modeling and standards best practices.
We would love to hear from you if
- University degree in Computer Sciences or a related discipline, with 7+ years of experience in information management, data governance, and data modeling. Additional experience in business process modeling would also be highly appreciated, as well as technical architecture for designing data exchange messaging and API solutions.
- Strong expertise in conceptual, logical, and physical data modeling, with proven ability to translate complex business requirements into scalable and interoperable data models aligned with industry standards.
- Demonstrated experience applying data governance framework, including data quality, stewardship, metadata management, and controlled vocabularies.
- Hands-on experience with UML, BPMN 2.0, XML, JSON and API schema design.
- Proficiency with Enterprise Architecture and data modeling tools (e.g., Sparx EA).
- Experience gathering, validating, and documenting business requirements across multiple stakeholder groups.
- Excellent communication skills, able to articulate complex data concepts to non‑technical audiences.
