The role
As a Senior Nuclear Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary, forming part of the team that produces the work authorities for fuel handling/defueling of nuclear submarines.
You will have an input and influence on the fuel handling/defuel process, including the creation, change and implementation of processes utilised across the site.
Day-to-day, you’ll support in the production in detailed nuclear control documentation to be utilised by various teams.
- Ensuring that strict contractual and legislative standards of nuclear safety and conventional health and safety are maintained when drafting nuclear documentation.
- Attending Fuel Handling Procedure Authorisation Group (FHPAG) meetings to answer questions concerning nuclear control documentation content and to incorporate any justified changes as agreed.
- Performing quality checking to own and peers’ documentation for agreed scope and / or area of expertise.
- Assisting the Deputy FHPAG Chair and management in the production of the fuel handling sequence logic.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.
Essential experience of the Senior Nuclear Engineer
- A full understanding of plant processes and documentation.
- The ability to assess maintenance information and identify progress against plan.
- Technical authoring experience would be advantageous.
- Submarine/Civil Nuclear experience would be advantageous
Qualifications for the Senior Nuclear Engineer
- Level 3 Qualification in engineering discipline or significant relevant experience.

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC security clearance for this role.
