ABOUT THE ROLE & TEAM
As a Scrum Master for the team, you will be responsible for establishing and ensuring the team follows agile principles, processes, and practices. The role requires excellent communication, leadership, and facilitation skills as well as a deep understanding of Agile methodologies. You will be highly organized and ensure timely running of effective scrum events (stand-ups, retros, etc.), identifying and implementing improvement opportunities, ensuring refinement of the backlog and coaching the team to practice agile principles. You are highly collaborative and will advise, mentor, coach and train your colleagues ensuring value delivery in an agile structure.
You are an extremely strong communicator and have strong experience in partnerships with Product Owners and advocating for the team. You will support teams to evolve into high performing agile teams. You are a servant leader who will promote self-organization within the teams, so that the teams learn to function independently. You will work with the team, PO and other stakeholders to ensure attainable goals are set and delivered by your team. You are committed to developing your own expertise and knowledge to bring the latest thinking to your role to empower others with that knowledge. The Scrum Master ensures a collaborative culture exists within the team and establishes collaboration as the team norm. This requires strong conflict resolution and morale building skills.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- You will advise and lead the team on agile values, practices and processes to ensure that the team is fully functional, productive, and focused on the sprint goals.
- Facilitate Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews and retrospectives, ensuring they are productive.
- Acting as a shield for the team from outside distractions and interferences and as the conscience of the team, especially when evaluating “Doneness” or “Readiness” criteria.
- Guiding the team on self-organization and facilitating getting the work done without coercion, assigning, or dictating the work and assisting with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and radiating information.
- Providing all support to the team using a servant leadership style whenever possible and leading by example and building a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame, retribution, or being judged, with an emphasis on healing and problem-solving.
- You will participate in your Scrum Master COP, contributing to and driving best practices and you will build positive relationships within and across teams.
- Monitor and track the progress of the Scum team, maintain metrics that provide visibility to stakeholders on team-level progress and quality & be a change agent and foster a “learn by doing” environment.
- Removing impediments or guiding the team to remove impediments by finding the right personnel to remove the impediment.
- Supporting and educating the Product Owner, especially with regards to refining and maintaining the product backlog.
- Assessing the Scrum Maturity of the team and organization and coaching the team to higher levels of maturity, at a pace that is sustainable and comfortable for the team and organization
ABOUT YOUR SKILLS:
- Desirable - 5+ years of industry experience in an Agile/software development environment, and 3+ years of experience in a Scrum Master role.
- Experience leading, coaching, mentoring, and motivating people and teams.
- Strong proficiency and experience with agile practices, processes and artifacts, and in applying scrum methodologies in an Agile/software development environment.
- Experience in interpreting agile metrics to help identify and drive improvement opportunities, with a proven passion for mentoring and supporting teams.
- Experienced with Agile Frameworks - (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe...) and Agile planning tools such as Azure or Jira to manage workflows, track progress and report on status.
- Experience in working in a scaled agile environment would be advantageous, collaborating with other Scrum Masters, Product Owners and teams to ensure work is planned and aligned, and dependencies are identified and managed.
- Ability to coach teams to be self-organizing and strong communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate across all levels of the business.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills.
- Good skills and knowledge of servant leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continuous improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency.
- Scrum Master certification (CSM/PSM etc...)
NICE-TO-HAVE:
- Strong facilitation skills with ability to understand and help address challenges and roadblocks.
- Excellent written/verbal communication, influencing and people-interaction skills.
- You are an agile practitioner with a deep understanding of agile principles and practices.
