Position Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Operations Supervisor to lead our composites manufacturing area in Manchester, CT. This role is responsible for overseeing daily production activities with a focus on resin transfer molding (RTM) and related composite processes, as well as managing raw materials and driving Lean manufacturing and 5S initiatives to improve efficiency, quality, and workplace organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate daily operations within the composites production area
- Lead processes including:
- Resin Transfer Molding (RTM)
- Mold injection and resin infusion
- Vacuum-assisted processes
- Composite layup
- Pulling and demolding operations
- Bonding of metallic components to composite structures
- Manage raw materials used in composite manufacturing, including:
- Resins, hardeners, and catalysts
- Fibers (carbon fiber, fiberglass, etc.)
- Core materials and adhesives
- Ensure proper material handling, storage, traceability, and shelf-life control
- Lead and sustain 5S workplace organization standards across the production area
- Drive Lean manufacturing initiatives, including waste reduction, process flow improvements, and efficiency optimization
- Ensure efficient workflow, staffing, and production scheduling to meet output targets
- Monitor product quality and ensure compliance with company and industry standards
- Troubleshoot process issues and implement corrective actions
- Train, mentor, and develop production team members
- Enforce safety procedures and maintain a safe working environment
- Collaborate with engineering, quality, and supply chain teams to optimize operations
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Associateâs or Bachelorâs degree preferred
- 4+ years of experience in composites manufacturing, with leadership or supervisory experience
- Strong knowledge of:
- RTM and resin infusion processes
- Vacuum bagging and mold injection techniques
- Composite layup and bonding methods (including metallic bonding)
- Raw material handling and control in composites environments
- Lean manufacturing principles and 5S methodology
- Experience in non-autoclave composite processes (no oven or autoclave curing)
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and work instructions
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems (SAP or similar) and Microsoft Office
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
- Excellent communication and team leadership abilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in aerospace or advanced manufacturing environments
- Familiarity with AS9100, FAA, and ITAR requirements
Work Environment
- Manufacturing floor environment with exposure to composite materials
- Use of PPE required
- May require standing for extended periods and occasional lifting
