The Senior Manager Technology, Platform Operations leads the team responsible for the day-to-day operational running of the organisation’s cloud platforms. The role ensures the platforms remain stable, compliant, supportable, well-governed and easily consumable by internal engineering teams.
This position provides structured operational processes, service workflows, and first-line support while coordinating efforts across Engineering, DevX, SRE and SecOps. The role is both strategic and operational, driving continuous improvement, operational maturity and platform reliability.
This role will provide Tier 1/Tier 2 support for cloud platform tools, consoles and workflows, with some on call expected. You will assist technology teams with onboarding, access, and operational troubleshooting.
As a People Leader you will lead, mentor and grow a team of Platform Operations specialists. This role will be a decision-maker of the recruitment processes and retaining of top-talent, providing employee coaching, mentoring, development and team building.
Key Responsibilities
- Service Catalogue & Request Management, own and maintain the platform service catalogue, including SLAs, fulfilment processes, and request models.
- Operate, optimise and automate request fulfilment workflows (e.g. ServiceNow/Jira).
- Maintain authoritative configuration and asset data for all cloud platform resources, providing asset and configuration insights to Cyber, Risk, Audit, and Architecture teams.
- Provide Tier 1/Tier 2 support for cloud platform tools, consoles and workflows and assist developers with onboarding, access, and operational troubleshooting.
- Manage daily operations for the Akamai CDN environment.
- Own and maintain the platform-wide on-call roster and escalation model.
- Lead the team of Platform Operations specialists, driving a culture of operational excellence, continuous improvement and service ownership
You’ll Have
- Significant experience working in Technology, from large enterprise environments or equivalent organisations
- Strong demonstrated leadership experience managing operational engineering teams in a cloud-first or hybrid-cloud environment.
- 10+ years technical experience in cloud platform operations, site reliability engineering, DevOps, or similar disciplines, still hands on with ability to lead technical direction.
- Hands-on experience with both AWS and Azure, including core services, account/subscription governance, networking, IAM, monitoring, and operational best practices.
- Strong business acumen, FinOps background, including cost allocation, optimisation, budgeting, forecasting, utilisation analysis, and cloud cost governance frameworks.
- Strong grounding in incident, problem, and change management practices.
- Excellent communication, influence, and stakeholder management capabilities.
