Lead Mechanical Design Engineer (Power Generation – Simple Cycle / EPC)
Long-term contract in Birmingham, AL. Very competitive pay, time and a half for OT, Mob/Demob, and strong per diem.
Join this fast-growing design engineering firm (will double in size in the next 18 months), supporting the design of simple-cycle gas turbine plants. Requirements:
- 8–15+ years in mechanical design
- Experience with simple cycle power generation systems
- Background in EPC project environments
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Revit, or similar tools
- Background in mentoring junior engineers
- PE License a plus, not required.
Responsibilities:
- Lead mechanical design for simple cycle power generation projects
- Ensure high-quality, field-ready designs for mechanical piping system and components.
- Develop equipment layouts and specs; guide 3D modeling and construction drawing development
- Provide hands-on design leadership with mentoring responsibilities for junior engineers
- Conduct design reviews with a coaching mindset; Review and approve design packages
- Collaborate with civil, structural, and electrical teams
- Coordinate with procurement and construction teams
- Support vendor coordination and equipment selection
- Resolve field issues (RFIs, design changes)
- Ensure compliance with ASME, ANSI, and project standards
