Manager, Technical Support
Position Summary
The Manager, Technical Support leads and directs all technical support and project execution activities across Support Shop areas—including but not limited to Structures, Avionics, Interior, Composites, Paint, Accessory, Airframe, and Engineering—within an FAA Part 145 Repair Station environment supporting Embraer aircraft. This role is accountable for safe, compliant, on-time, and cost‑effective delivery of operational schedules, customer commitments, and regulatory requirements.
The position plays a critical role in
project management, cross‑functional coordination, and resource planning, ensuring maintenance inputs are delivered with high quality and airworthiness while advancing safety, SMS, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Manager fosters a culture of employee safety, technician development, lean execution, and innovation to support business growth and operational excellence.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead and manage Support Shop areas including Structures, Composites, Avionics, Interior, Paint, Accessory, Airframe, and Engineering with a strong focus on project execution, schedule adherence, and delivery performance.
- Plan, coordinate, and manage technical support scope for maintenance projects to ensure alignment with hangar work packages, component operations, customer schedules, and Embraer requirements.
- Promote and enforce employee safety, SMS, and aviation safety principles across all support functions.
- Communicate organizational goals, policies, procedures, and project expectations clearly to all stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with employment law, safety/security rules, and company policies and procedures, partnering with local Human Resource Business Partner (HRBP) and local Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) as needed.
- Maintain full compliance with RSM/QCM, SOP, ENS, and all applicable FAA, OSHA, EPA, and regulatory requirements.
- Review SOPs every two years (or as needed) to ensure accuracy, compliance, and alignment with the best operational practices.
- Oversee productivity, efficiency, and performance outcomes for all assigned support areas, with accountability for safety, quality, delivery and cost performance.
- Manage departmental budgets, labor utilization, and material expenses to meet cost targets and support profitable operations.
- Lead quality and airworthiness assurance activities, ensuring technical support outputs meet FAA, customer, and Embraer standards.
- Ensure proper reporting through P3E, Quality Assurance, and SMS Program including identification of risks, non‑conformities, and root cause corrective actions.
- Drive continuous improvement, lean initiatives, and standard work to eliminate waste, improve flow, and improve project predictability.
- Develop, implement, and sustain robust On‑the‑Job Training (OJT) and technical training programs to support technician qualification, skill growth, and succession planning.
- Coach and develop supervisors and technicians to strengthen technical capability, leadership readiness, and accountability.
- Partner with Quality, Engineering, Planning, Supply Chain, and Operations to align technical support delivery with organizational objectives and customer requirements.
- Support business growth initiatives through improved capability development, process innovation, and readiness for new Embraer programs or modifications.
- Perform additional duties as assigned; responsibilities may evolve based on operational demands.
Qualifications
Education
- Required: A&P license.
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in aviation maintenance management, or related field, and relevant FAA 145 MRO experience.
Experience
- Typically, 2–4 years of experience in people management.
- Experience managing technical support, maintenance projects, or cross‑functional activities within an FAA Part 145 environment.
- Demonstrated experience supporting aircraft systems, structures, and maintenance processes.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong understanding of aircraft systems and structures including electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and communication systems.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply engineering drawings, technical data, maintenance manuals, and FAA‑approved work instructions.
- Strong knowledge of FAA regulations, Part 145 requirements, and airworthiness standards.
- Working knowledge of SMS, quality systems, and continuous airworthiness processes.
- Strong project management, organizational, and prioritization skills in a fast‑paced MRO environment.
- Familiarity with statistical analysis, lean principles, and structured problem‑solving techniques.
- Proven ability to develop technicians through training, coaching, and performance feedback.
- Strong leadership skills in coaching, conflict resolution, accountability, and collaboration.
- Knowledge of employment law (harassment, disability, discrimination, labor regulations).
- Business acumen in cost control, delivery performance, innovation, customer satisfaction, and operational efficiency.
- Knowledge of Embraer products and support programs preferred.
Working Conditions / Special Requirements
- Must work in a safe, professional manner in adherence to OSHA, EPA, FAA, and federal/state regulations.
- Position is subject to FAA‑regulated random drug and alcohol testing.
- Must maintain confidentiality of company information, proprietary data, and employee matters.
- Must meet work schedule commitments and support operational demands as required.
