What Will You Be Doing?
The Group Sales Manager oversees the airline’s Group Desk operations, driving revenue growth through improved analytics, strategic sales initiatives, strong client relationships, and effective team leadership.
This role manages the full lifecycle of group bookings while leveraging data, pricing insights, and operational expertise to optimize performance.
The ideal candidate combines commercial acumen with hands-on technical skills, including experience with data analytics, financial planning and analysis, and airline operating systems.
Essential Functions
Sales Strategy & Revenue Growth
- Develop and execute strategies to increase group sales across leisure, corporate, MICE, sports, education, and affinity segments.
- Identify new business opportunities and build strong relationships with travel agencies, consolidators, and key accounts.
- Collaborate closely with Revenue Management to optimize group pricing, fare structures, and inventory allocation.
- Analyze market trends, competitive activity, and demand patterns to ensure competitive group offerings.
Data, Reporting & Performance Management
- Run SQL queries to analyze booking trends, revenue performance, and operational efficiency.
- Use data insights to recommend pricing adjustments, policy changes, and process improvements.
- Responsible for financial forecasting and preparation of regular reports for senior leadership highlighting trends, opportunities, and risks.
- Monitor team productivity and provide coaching, training, and performance evaluations.
Team Leadership & Daily Operations
- Lead, coach, and motivate the Contact Center Group Desk team to achieve sales targets and service-level commitments.
- Oversee the full group booking lifecycle: quoting, contracting, ticketing, payment collection, and post‑sale support.
- Ensure timely and accurate responses to group inquiries, adhering to internal SLAs and quality standards.
- Implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce errors, and elevate customer satisfaction.
Client Relationship Management
- Serve as the escalation point for complex group bookings, schedule changes, or operational disruptions.
- Conduct sales visits, presentations, and training sessions for agency partners and corporate clients.
- Represent the airline at trade shows, industry events, and partner meetings to promote group products.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Data Analytics, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in airline sales, group travel, hospitality sales, or related field.
- Strong understanding of airline pricing, fare structures, and revenue management practices as well as strong knowledge of airline strategic planning, financial analysis, and/or operations.
- Understanding of advanced analytical techniques utilizing python, SQL, R or similar analytics tools.
- Strong knowledge of Excel for data manipulation and analysis
- Strong presentation skills using Microsoft PowerPoint
- Hands-on experience with airline reservation and operating systems.
- Experience leading or supervising a sales team.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship building skills.
- Ability to develop, configure, and maintain automated workflows, triggers, and processes within the CRM platform (e.g., HubSpot).
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Previous experience working in PRM or an airline Group Desk environment.
- Familiarity with GDS systems, airline operating systems, and CRM tools.
- Experience with reporting tools (Power BI, DataBricks, or similar).
- Ability to work with minimum supervision in a collaborative team environment
- Must exercise sound business judgment and handle confidential information with sensitivity
- Broad understanding of consumer databases and customer analytics
