The Instructional Designer: Digital Content is responsible for designing, developing and maintaining high-quality digital learning content and eLearning solutions for the iAcademy team. The role combines instructional design, digital content production and technical development to create engaging, accessible and effective learning experiences.
The post holder will work closely with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and internal stakeholders to transform complex technical information into clear, structured and learner-friendly content. This includes the development of storyboards, scripts, interactive learning activities, assessments and multimedia assets, as well as the technical build of digital learning products within authoring tools and learning platforms.
The role also requires the effective use of AI-enabled platforms and digital tools to improve efficiency, quality and innovation across learning design and project delivery. A key part of the role is ensuring that content is accessible, inclusive and compliant with relevant accessibility requirements, including the European Accessibility Act, where applicable.
In addition, the Instructional Designer: Digital Content will support the design of adaptive learning solutions, including branching eLearning courses, to create personalised and responsive learner journeys.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

The Instructional Designer: Digital Content will:· Work collabatively with the wider team to understand design concepts and advise how they can be implemented effectively at a technical level.· Design and build high-quality, engaging and accessible online learning content and interactive multimedia using a range of software platforms and authoring tools.
· Develop digital learning content in line with accessibility standards and requirements, including the principles of the European Accessibility Act, to ensure inclusive learning experiences for all users.
· Create adaptive learning solutions, including branching eLearning courses, scenario-based learning and personalised learner pathways.
· Write effective learning copy, instructional text, narration scripts, audio scripts and video scripts.
· Translate complex technical information into clear, accurate and easy-to-understand learning content suitable for the target audience.
· Carry out structure reviews of digital content and produce structure maps to ensure that learning elements fit together logically and support the required learning outcomes.
· Design and develop engaging interactive elements and activities that are visually appealing, professional and instructionally effective.
· Design learning checks and assessments, including quizzes, tests and knowledge checks, to support and measure learner understanding.
· Create engaging storyboards for a range of digital learning outputs.
· Write and edit efficient computer code or scripts, ensuring that graphics, audio, animation, interaction and timing function as intended and make effective use of processing and storage capacity.
· Create and link databases or data-driven components to user interfaces so that information can be retrieved, stored and processed interactively within the application where required.
· Organise operational logic and business rules necessary for digital features to function correctly in line with design specifications.
· Carry out testing of digital learning applications and products to identify faults, bugs or usability issues, and implement corrections as required.
· Provide technical support for learning applications after release, including updates, adaptations, patches and rewrites where necessary.
· Review digital content outputs to ensure they meet project requirements, quality standards, accessibility expectations and learning design principles.
· Undertake graphic, audio and video editing in line with the required course style guide and quality standards.
· Collaborate with colleagues to ensure courses and course content function effectively within the Learning Management System (LMS).
· Use AI platforms and tools appropriately to improve efficiency in project planning, content development, design workflows, quality assurance and production processes.
· Research and keep up to date with emerging technologies, digital learning trends, accessibility practices, authoring tools and AI developments to support continuous improvement and innovation.
Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience
The successful candidate should have:
· Proven experience in instructional design, including the application of learning theories, instructional methodologies and best practice in digital learning.
· Experience in designing and developing digital learning content using rapid authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline, Rise and AI-supported platforms.
· Experience in storyboarding for a variety of digital learning outputs.
· Experience of critically reviewing content and providing constructive, actionable feedback.
· Experience in creating interactive and adaptive eLearning, including branching scenarios or personalised learning pathways.
· Knowledge of digital accessibility requirements and good practice, including the creation of content aligned to accessibility standards and the principles of the European Accessibility Act.
· Ability to simplify and structure highly complex or technical subject matter into clear, engaging and easy-to-understand learning content.
· Basic understanding of Java, CSS, HTML or similar web technologies.
· Good technical problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot digital content issues.
· Strong written communication skills, with the ability to write clearly for different learning formats and audiences.
· Good organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently to deadlines.
Qualifications:
Experience working with Learning Management Systems.
Experience with graphic, audio and video editing tools.
Experience working with SMEs in technical or regulated subject areas.
Awareness of current trends in AI, adaptive learning and digital accessibility within learning design.
