Position Summary
mtu Asia, a division of Rolls-Royce Power Systems, is seeking an experienced and driven Senior Manager Procurement – Indirect APAC to lead and develop a high-performing regional procurement function across APAC.
Rolls-Royce Power Systems delivers mission-critical solutions across power generation, marine, energy, and industrial applications, including diesel and gas engines, hybrid systems, and distributed energy systems.
This role is pivotal in shaping and executing regional procurement strategies across a broad portfolio of indirect spend categories supporting manufacturing operations, engineering, service operations, logistics, facilities, IT, and corporate functions. The successful candidate will drive cost optimization, supplier performance, operational efficiency, procurement governance, and sustainable procurement practices within a highly matrixed and international environment.
The role operates at both strategic and operational levels, partnering closely with regional business leaders, global procurement teams, finance, operations, legal, and functional stakeholders to deliver long-term procurement value and business continuity across APAC.
This is a key leadership role requiring strong commercial acumen, stakeholder management capability, supplier negotiation expertise, and experience driving procurement transformation initiatives within complex industrial or engineering environments.
What you will be doing:
Regional Procurement Leadership
- Define and execute APAC indirect procurement strategies aligned with global procurement objectives and regional business priorities
- Lead and develop a high-performing procurement team responsible for freight, logistics, construction services, consumables, operational supplies, and indirect procurement activities across APAC
- Drive procurement initiatives to achieve cost savings, operational efficiency, supplier optimization, and long-term value creation
- Establish procurement governance, KPIs, reporting frameworks, and performance dashboards to support strategic decision-making
- Support procurement transformation and continuous improvement initiatives across the organization
Strategic Sourcing & Category Management
- Manage indirect procurement categories including but not limited to:
- Freight & Logistics
- Construction & Facilities Services
- Consumables & Operational Supplies
- IT & Digital Services
- Professional Services
- MRO and engineering support services
- Corporate operational services
- Lead strategic sourcing activities including RFQ/RFP processes, supplier evaluations, negotiations, and contract award recommendations
- Develop sourcing and category strategies that balance cost, quality, compliance, service, sustainability, and operational risk mitigation
- Identify opportunities for supplier consolidation, process optimization, and commercial improvement
Supplier Management & Commercial Negotiation
- Develop and manage strategic supplier relationships across APAC and global supplier networks
- Lead complex commercial negotiations involving pricing, service levels, contractual terms, and long-term supplier agreements
- Negotiate, conclude, and manage supplier contracts to ensure optimal commercial conditions and service quality
- Monitor supplier performance through structured governance frameworks, scorecards, and performance reviews
- Drive supplier accountability against KPIs including quality, delivery, responsiveness, compliance, and cost competitiveness
- Support escalation management and resolution of procurement or supplier-related operational issues
Market Intelligence & Procurement Strategy
- Monitor and analyze market trends, supplier developments, and commercial risks to proactively adjust procurement strategies
- Provide procurement insights and recommendations to support business planning and operational requirements
- Collaborate closely with global procurement teams and contribute to group-wide sourcing initiatives and procurement programs
- Support sustainability and responsible sourcing initiatives aligned with Rolls-Royce corporate objectives
Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner closely with regional and global stakeholders including Operations, Engineering, Finance, Legal, HR, IT, and Facilities teams
- Act as the key procurement advisor to internal business functions across APAC
- Ensure procurement involvement in budgeting, demand planning, project execution, and operational initiatives
- Collaborate with business units to understand operational requirements and deliver procurement solutions aligned to business objectives
- Support stakeholders in supplier selection, contract governance, procurement compliance, and risk management
Contract, Compliance & Risk Management
- Lead contract lifecycle management activities across regional procurement operations
- Ensure supplier contracts comply with Rolls-Royce governance, legal, commercial, and compliance requirements
- Identify procurement and supply risks impacting regional operations and implement mitigation strategies
- Ensure compliance with corporate policies, procurement governance standards, and sustainability objectives
- Support audit activities and ensure adherence to procurement controls and ethical sourcing standards
- Ensure business continuity planning for critical suppliers and procurement categories
Procurement Operations & Continuous Improvement
- Drive procurement process standardization and operational excellence initiatives
- Improve procurement efficiency through automation, analytics, digital procurement tools, and process improvement methodologies
- Support procurement system optimization initiatives including SAP and procurement platforms
- Monitor procurement spends, savings performance, and budget compliance across APAC
- Promote continuous improvement culture within the procurement function using modern procurement practices and digital solutions
Leadership & Capability Building
- Build, mentor, and further develop a high-performing and motivated procurement team
- Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performance procurement culture
- Coach stakeholders on procurement best practices, supplier management, and governance standards
- Support talent development and succession planning within the procurement organization
Position requirements:
- Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Logistics, Engineering, Operations Management, or a related discipline
- Minimum 8 years of professional experience in procurement, strategic sourcing, or category management within industrial, engineering, manufacturing, energy, marine, or multinational environments
- Strong experience managing indirect procurement categories such as logistics, services, consumables, facilities, and operational support services
- Proven experience managing regional procurement operations across APAC markets
- Strong leadership experience with the ability to inspire, motivate, and develop teams within a matrix organization
- Proven experience in:
- Strategic sourcing and category management
- Supplier negotiation and contract management
- Procurement governance and compliance
- Cost optimization and procurement transformation initiatives
- Stakeholder management across regional and global environments
- Excellent commercial acumen with hands-on experience leading complex negotiations and supplier agreements
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to analyze complex data, derive insights, and make strategic decisions
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders across functions and cultures
- Proactive, solution-oriented, and commercially driven mindset
- Experience working within international corporate and matrix environments
- Proficiency in SAP, procurement systems, and MS Office applications
- Knowledge of procurement methodologies, supplier management frameworks, and procurement best practices
- Experience working across multiple countries and cultures within APAC is highly advantageous
- Experience gained in industries such as power generation, energy systems, heavy equipment, industrial manufacturing, marine, engineering services, or other asset-intensive environments will be highly advantageous
- Fluency in English is required
- Additional language capability in Chinese, Malay, or German will be advantageous
- MCIPS certification or equivalent procurement qualification will be advantageous
- Willingness to travel across the APAC region as required
