Lead Apprenticeship Standards Assessor (LASA)
Resource Group is seeking a Lead Apprenticeship Standards Assessor (LASA) to join its apprenticeship team. Reporting to the Apprenticeship Completions Manager, this role combines the assessment of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering apprentices with the operational leadership of a team of Apprenticeship Standards Assessors.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring high-quality, compliant and consistent assessment delivery, while supporting apprentice progression, assessor development and continuous improvement across the programme.
Main Responsibilities
Lead, mentor and supervise a team of Apprenticeship Standards Assessors.
Coordinate assessor workloads and apprentice allocations to ensure effective delivery.
Monitor assessor performance, productivity and compliance with assessment deadlines and quality standards.
Conduct and lead standardisation activities to ensure consistency and reliability of assessment decisions.
Review and verify assessment evidence, ensuring apprenticeship standard requirements are fully met prior to awarding organisation sign-off.
Lead learner progress reviews with apprentices and employers, identifying risks and supporting successful completion.
Prepare and provide monthly apprenticeship progress reports and performance data to management.
Maintain oversight of apprentice progress within the e-portfolio system and support ongoing system improvements.
Ensure timely reporting of apprenticeship completions and achievement data.
Support the achievement of timely success rates in line with, or above, national benchmarks.
Manage relationships with awarding organisations, external quality assurers and employer stakeholders.
Prepare for and support EQA visits, audits and external inspections.
Carry out assessor observations, verification activities and site visits, producing reports as required.
Support the recruitment, induction, training and ongoing development of assessment staff.
Conduct annual appraisals and support CPD planning for assessors.
Act as the first point of escalation for assessment-related issues, learner concerns and operational challenges.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across assessment delivery, learner experience and quality assurance processes.
Maintain a personal caseload of apprentices to ensure continued occupational and assessment competence.
Requirements
Proven experience assessing apprenticeships within Aircraft Maintenance Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
Previous experience supervising, mentoring or leading assessors, trainers or apprenticeship teams.
Significant industry experience within civil or military aircraft maintenance environments.
Strong understanding of apprenticeship standards, assessment methodologies and quality assurance requirements.
Experience conducting standardisation, verification and compliance activities.
Recognised engineering qualification (NVQ, BTEC, City & Guilds, HNC/HND or equivalent).
Assessor qualification (TAQA, CAVA, A1) or willingness to work towards one.
Excellent communication, report writing and stakeholder management skills.
Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital learning/assessment systems.
Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel.
Desirable
IQA qualification (or working towards).
Experience with End-Point Assessment (EPA) delivery.
Knowledge of KPI reporting and operational performance management.
Experience supporting assessor CPD and quality improvement initiatives.
Experience within Part 145 and/or Part 147 organisations.
Current or previous aircraft maintenance licence or engineering authorisations.
