Johnson Service Group is looking for a Student Intern for our client in San Jose. This person will support civil engineering projects by assisting with permit processing, utility research, GIS mapping, land rights research, and engineering documentation. This role provides hands-on experience with infrastructure projects, construction plans, and permitting processes. Responsibilities: Research utility records, property ownership, easements, and right-of-way information using GIS maps, County Assessor records, and engineering documents. Review construction plans and permit applications for completeness. Prepare permit exhibits, maps, and supporting documentation. Assist with tracking permits, maintaining project records, and updating databases. Respond to Underground Service Alert (USA) tickets by reviewing records and GIS information to identify potential impacts to infrastructure. Assist with annual updates to land rights records. Qualifications: Must be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering field and be in their sophomore year or beyond, with coursework applicable to the assigned duties. Valid CA drivers license Basic knowledge of civil engineering principles and terminology. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, maps, and construction plans. Familiarity with GIS maps, surveying, utilities, and right-of-way concepts preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat. Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple assignments.
