Johnson Service Group is looking for an Accountant for our client in San Jose. This person will support the accurate and timely processing of biweekly payroll and a variety of payroll, accounting, reconciliation, and financial reporting functions. Responsibilities: Process the District’s biweekly payroll accurately and timely. Review and establish payroll information for new employees. Validate payroll and time-entry transactions for accuracy. Reconcile and interface data for CalPERS retirement, Nationwide, and BRI programs. Monitor CalPERS deductions to ensure compliance with annual contribution limits. Process leave payout checks for separating employees. Prepare and post payroll-related payments, journal entries, and other accounting transactions. Reconcile funding, settlement claims, and other assigned accounts. Record and maintain fixed assets in Infor. Research and resolve payroll and accounting discrepancies. Provide support to internal and external customers regarding payroll-related questions and issues. Perform other related duties and special assignments as needed. Required Knowledge: Basic accounting principles, payroll processing, and account reconciliation. Some knowledge of governmental accounting practices. Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and email. Enterprise-level payroll systems and/or related financial systems. Required Skills & Abilities: Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing effectively as part of a team. Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately record and reconcile financial transactions. Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and manage multiple assignments. Flexibility and willingness to learn and take on a variety of tasks to support departmental needs. Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing. Strong customer service skills and ability to work effectively with internal and external customers. Education & Experience Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting or a related field. One (1) year of professional accounting experience. Substitution Directly related experience may be substituted for the college requirement on the basis of one and one-half years of experience for one year of education to a maximum of four years.
