Director, Engineering
Reservation is the beating heart of many Amadeus products. It handles critical steps on trip reservation including booking, ticketing, management of traveler records. Our organization, part of the Travel Search and Reservation unit (TSI-TSR), drives these reservation functions for most of Travel Content, such as air, land, sea. We are accountable for our unique reservation platform, used by both by Airlines and Distribution actors. With the travel industry rapidly changing, the organization is involved in key on-going and new projects at the crossroad of all the business units (e.g. integration of the next generation of distribution interfaces to acquire airline content, enhancing the platform to optimize merchandizing techniques for our customers, etc.). We also recognize technical challenges of our platform’s modernization bringing our application in the cloud and the development of cloud-native micro-services has already started.
The mission of the Order Management Capabilities division (TSI-TSR-OMC) is to provide reliable services for
connecting to various content providers, booking air content,
ticket issuance, after sales flows, and synchronization of travel records with other systems. These services – the core of Amadeus’ business - are provided either for classical channels (GDS, PSS) or for the new generation ones (NDC, Nevio). They are designed to serve multiple customer segments in the Travel Unit providers (e.g., airlines) and sellers (e.g., travel agencies).
Within OMC, the CAC department delivers key components for on-going strategic projects at the crossroad of all the business units (e.g. NDCX, Nevio, Creation Platform). While the department covers the Amadeus Labs part of the entire OMC division, it is especially accountable for the connectivity to NDC content providers, various ticket issuance products (e.g., quotation) and some Creation Platform capabilities (e.g. CATS).
Purpose
The head of CAC leads a department of 80 software developers, product definition analysts, quality assurance engineers and DevOps engineers in Bangalore and Sydney. The group is on a continuous growth trend, especially on the NDCX part.
The department is composed of several teams and manages key components such as:
- Connectivity Layer for Travel Platform – connect to and normalize communication with NDC external providers
- Connect capability – part of the Creation Platform, a framework used by 20+ Amadeus applications (Cars, Hospitality, etc.) and its Cloud-Native equivalent used by more recent applications (Outpayce, TravellerID)
- Ticketing Assets and Quotation – mission critical components in the issuance flow
- Back-Office AIR – financial flow towards the middle-back office of travel agencies
The department has a clear identity and is fully accountable for its components, for the functional scope and for the associated technical components (OBE, ULAM components…). The teams are responsible for product evolution, vision and sustainability. They interact with their product management on three business domains (Altea, Travel Distribution and Creation Platform) to drive product evolution.
The head of CAC is based in Bangalore and reports to a Nice director (head of OMC). His/her direct reports include managers and individual contributors in Bangalore and a Sydney team with its local manager. This senior leader is accountable for all aspects of the owned components/products in the scope starting from feature deliveries to product maintenance for all customers. (S)he also needs to provide the vision for the owned components, enable teams and guide engineering managers. A key part of responsibility is also be to ensure near zero downtime time and peak performance for the product in production.
An innovation mindset is part of the group’s culture, with several cloud-native prototypes created – one of which is now an official capability in Creation Platform – and with one of the official Lift3 incubation projects in Amadeus driven by CAC team members.
Accountabilities

Relevant work experience
- 10+ years of experience working in a distributed product development environment. Should have experience in development of at least two enterprise products end to end, taking them to production and running in production 24*7.
- 5+ years of management of high performing engineering group in Agile
- Should have prior experience working with product management to prioritize roadmap items for delivery and working closely with PM teams for building the product and taking it to the market
- Knowledge of travel domain is a plus
- Experience with C++ or cloud-native applications is a plus
