Lead, plan,analyse and evaluate all commercial and operational aspects of Freighters ('Wet Lease' and 'Emirates') taking into account the operational and cost implications of the business for charter sales. Propose charter solutions and make decisions on short to medium term basis in consultation with Management to optimise the freighter network and maximise profitability in the short to medium term.
In This Role, You Will
- Prepare agreements, in line with EK best business practices. Based on market demand and feedback from internal and external stakeholders, initiate and decide upon routings of scheduled freighter services. Optimise freighter revenues, maximise opportunities for extra revenue earning whilst ensuring slots and permits are secured as needed to run a smooth operation.
- Ensure the equine products revenue contribution to freighters is increased year-on-year, by coordinating with equine customers, shipping agents, network stations, capacity control and operations teams whilst ensuring complete set-up of all horses/accompanying grooms travel procedures for a safe and seamless movement.
- Prepare all long term cargo commitment contracts for forwarders in line with EK best business practices to ensure that commercial aspects of Charter operations are diligent and profitable. To agree with customers to make sure that specific detailed elements of these contracts are in line with the overall intent of the primary intentions of the commercial deal in question.

Commercial Planning
- Working with charter customers, decide and agree contractual commitments for all charters. Plan all charter contracting activities in line with EK best business practices to ensure that commercial aspects of charter and freighter operations charter operations are diligent, workable and profitable.
- Based on market feedback from stations, charter customers and Capacity Control, initiate and decide upon re-routings of scheduled freighter services to optimise freighter revenues and maximise opportunities for extra revenue earning charter opportunities.
- Source on an ad-hoc basis sub-leased capacity for regional charter opportunities to take advantage of Regional changes to traffic flows and demand, over and above capabilities of existing capacity. Make Recommendations to MFC&FD and to MFO&C to agree and follow up the implementation of these extra Flights.
- Prepare post-flight profitability reports on charter operations and ad-hoc schedule changes such as re-routing and temporary operations for SkyCargo Senior Management and Finance to maintain complete transparency, profitability and justification of schedule changes and charter operations.
- Analyse and forecast aircraft fleet utilisation, taking into account details such as routes flown, schedule change details, charter requirements, and make recommendations on optimisation of aircraft utilisation. Identify any areas of possible under-utilisation, especially against wet-lease utilisation guarantees and discuss with Freighter management to agree plans to solve any issues arising.
- Based on economic results of freighter operations, plan and select most appropriate aircraft equipment and operator (wet-lease or EK) to be scheduled on various routes on medium term basis, taking in to account where the deployment of certain aircraft could have a detrimental effect on cargo uplift and service delivery. Recommend to Cargo Scheduling & Planning Manager operational changes to wet-lease operators, and new route integration coordinating with Emirates Engineering, Flight Operations etc, in order to re-deploy such aircraft to enhance fleet profitability in the medium term.
- Establish and manage processes and procedures for the coordination and management of existing scheduled operations, charter operations and new station operations (by both wet lease providers and EK operated freighter aircraft) to ensure that all aspects of the operation are optimised to avoid unnecessary costs and service failures.
Freighter Operation Planning
- Manage and control the master operating plan of the scheduled freighter network and charter operations, and ensure interface of such schedules with other e-trading platforms and interline partners across Emirates and other airline partners. Manage the medium term interim operational planning to ensure that all freighters and charter flights operate to optimum commercial schedule in coordination with the various different aircraft operators, both Emirates and wet lease suppliers, as well as internally with Cargo Capacity Control, Network Control Centre and out station management teams.
- Analyse critical flights moving through the Dubai hub and the mini hubs at the outstations based on the operating plan of the freighter network and charter operations in combination with the passenger network.
- Identify possible operational constraints within the network and charter operations to proactively plan and make recommendations to the various representatives in SkyCargo to ensure minimal disruptions to planned cargo loads.
- Devise and implement processes and procedures to identify operational constraints. Liaise with the cargo operations team, third party service providers globally and ground handling agents at the hub and outstations, to ensure they implement all processes and are fully briefed and geared to pay special attention to process freight on critical flights and handle all deviations to the planned operations.
- Establish aircraft tail numbers/registrations scheduled on various routes and identify the routes where the deployment of certain aircrafts could have a detrimental effect on cargo uplifts. Recommend changes to wet lease operators, as well as Emirates engineering, planning, flight operations etc to re-deploy such aircraft to gain additional payloads thus enhancing the revenue loads and to maintain consistent and quality service standards.
- Manage the entire fleet utilisation to ensure that leased aircraft are meeting utilisation guarantees to avoid unnecessary costs, and to maximise utilisation of Emirates owned aircraft in an effort to influence and reduce overall operating costs of these aircraft accordingly.
Equine/Horse Transportation
- Investigate new and current equine markets so that this unique SkyCargo product and charter offering can generate high yields to contribute to the freighter P&L.
- Construct rates for new equine trade lanes, comparing competitor pricing whilst reviewing capacity availability, BIP and special handling capabilities of the respective station handling agents.
- Co-ordinate with Capcon, EK Network, Crew Logistics, Fleet, Hub Operations, Dubai Airports, EK ULD and various teams to ensure space is protected, stalls are disinfected/certified and positioned/de-positioned along with securing Covid-19 related documentation.
- Ensure equine customer accounts are created in various internal systems so that revenue collected is correctly accounted for including but not limited to direct billing, CASS billing and/or securing customer bank guarantee etc., so financials are maintained electronically.
- Coordinate with the Charter and Scheduling teams to ensure specialized Horse Charter events are handled with utmost care and planning, as events with such magnitude require multiple flights to operate on schedule for demanding equine customers.
Qualification
To be successful in this role, you must meet the below requirements:
Degree or Honours (12+3 or equivalent)
Experience
- Logistics/Cargo.Air Cargo 5+ Years
- Commercial charter quotation and planning
- Operational charter set-up and coordination
- Loadability and feasibility Assessment
- Charter planning and fleet utilization
- Charter cost analysis and P/L
- Experience in airline cargo operations, charter operations, commercial and network planning
- Work outside office timings, could be during the week and/or during weekends depends on the requirement
- Excellent knowledge of the commercial fundamentals of freighters including selling rates and aircraft costs and freighter profitability
- Superior communication skills (both written and oral) especially when dealing with senior and technical colleagues both within and external to EK
- Wide range of technical skills across a wide range of aircraft operations, cargo loading, aircraft and crew
- Scheduling, slots and aircraft engineering
- Should have good knowledge of IATA regulations, rules and procedures
- Should have completed approved Cargo Acceptance and Handling courses including Special Cargo
