Role Introduction
The Cargo Service Specialist is the operational linchpin in the Chinese Mainland, ensuring the seamless execution of cargo service strategies at the station level. This role provides expert guidance to the Cargo Services Manager - Chinese Mainland and professional leadership to the port teams, driving compliance, efficiency, and service excellence through hands‑on oversight, process improvement, and strong vendor engagement. As a key liaison between Head Office, regional management, and local stations, the Specialist translates global standards into locally effective practices, upholding Cathay Cargo’s commitment to moving cargo that matters.
Key Responsibilities
Station Operations Enablement
- Ensure daily cargo operations adhere to safety, security, and compliance standards.
- Guide the implementation of service plans and process improvements at station level.
- Provide on‑site presence when required to ensure standards are consistently upheld.
Vendor & Performance Management
- Drive high performance across Ground Handling Agents (GHAs) partners by monitoring SLA/KPI delivery and conducting structured assessments.
- Conduct audits, deliver clear performance feedback, and help build vendor capability to enhance service delivery.
Safety & Compliance Monitoring
- Uphold regulatory adherence across stations, including dangerous goods handling, security protocols, and SMS requirements.
- Support incident investigations and corrective actions.
Customer & Product Enablement
- Enable flawless handling of specialised products by guiding stations of process readiness, infrastructure requirements, and customer onboarding.
- Work closely with ports to troubleshoot service issues, accelerate recoveries, and elevate the end‑to‑end customer journey
Digital & Process Innovation
- Identify and champion digitalization opportunities, optimise cargo processes, and support teams in transitioning to new platforms and system enhancements that improve accuracy, speed, and operational consistency
Training & Capability Support
- Drive competency development across Chinese Mainland by coordinating training delivery, validating skills through structured assessments, and ensuring documentation, SOPs, and station manuals remain up to date and aligned with global standards
Emergency & Crisis Response
- Coordinate regional preparedness for emergency and abnormal operations
- Ensure stations maintain readiness, participate in drills and act swiftly during disruptions
Operational Duty Holder Responsibilities
- Act as Remote Operational Duty Holder for ports as required
- Ensure safe, compliant, and efficient service delivery, including oversight of third-party contracted services
Requirements
Academic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or equivalent education qualifications, study in a cargo or related field is a distinct advantage
- Additional certification in logistics, supply chain, or aviation operations preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Training And Experience
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in cargo operations, customer service, or sales within a regional or multi-station environment.
- Practical knowledge of aviation safety and security regulations e.g., DGCA, IATA DGR.
- Strong process orientation with experience in operational improvement and digital solution implementation.
- Ability to influence without authority and work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Analytical mindset, attention to detail, and adaptability in fast-paced settings.
- Willingness to travel across the region as needed.
- Recency in Cathay Cargo Freighter RCO Licence is preferred.
