Job Description:
The Mechanic technician position supports rocket engine hot-fire tests, working with a small team including an instrumentation technician and a test engineer. Mechanics handle thrusters, prepare and operate the propellant feed systems, operate vacuum chamber systems, as well as performing maintenance, fabrication, and repair on various mechanical systems.
Essential Functions:
- Read, understand, and comply with written work instructions.
- Cutting, bending, and flaring stainless steel tubing. Selecting and installing appropriate fittings such as AN, Swagelok, Cajon, and others.
- Installing pressure sensors, mass flow meters, as well as various types of solenoid and hand valves in propellant feed systems.
- Preparing liquid and gas samples for chemical and particulate analysis.
- Loading liquid propellants from drums into feed system run tanks.
- Perform rocket engine hot fire tests in accordance with documented specifications and requirements. Monitoring propellant feed system, vacuum system, and all mechanical systems during hot fire.
- Maintain and rebuild various different types of valves and actuators.
- Maintain, repair, and rebuild various types of heavy machinery such as large vacuum pumps and cooling towers.
- Take part in training exercises as a member of our hazardous response team.
- Obtain a Respirator clearance up to and including the Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) Level A clearance.
Qualifications:
- Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 4 years of prior experience in a highly technical and mechanical environment or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with 0 to 2 years of prior experience in a highly technical and mechanical environment.
Preferred Additional Skils:
- Associate's degree in a related discipline.
- Experience working around hazardous materials or environments. This role requires participation in our Emergency Response Team and respirator certification.
- Ability to perform fine hand work involving good visual acuity, dexterity, and hand eye coordination.
- Welding, machining, and hazardous material handling experience.
- Qualifications as a licensed Airframe & Power Plant mechanic.
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role is $23.38/hr - $43.51/hr.
