The Human Rights and Harassment Office (“HRHO”) was established as a confidential, independent, and impartial office that receives and treats workplace complaints of harassment, violence, sexual harassment, discrimination, and other policy violations. The HRHO also devotes its resources to preventing harassment and violence in the workplace through sensitivity and awareness training and education, and workplace climate assessment.
The ideal candidate will possess strong investigation skills, excellent communication abilities, and a comprehensive understanding of relevant employment laws and regulations in Europe, the United Kingdom, and the Middle East. They will act in a neutral and unbiased capacity and conduct investigations promptly and thoroughly, as required by the HRHO. While they will work autonomously, the HRHO is committed to providing training and support in a collegial and team-focused environment. This is a full-time permanent position that supports the HRHO and reports to the Senior Director, Human Rights and Harassment.
Responsibilities:
To continuously identify and integrate best practices in workplace investigations, the Manager, Harassment and Employment Investigations – INTL, is responsible for:
- Reviewing and assessing complaints and determining the scope of the investigation, formulating investigation plans, and scheduling and conducting in-person and/or virtual interviews, as appropriate with the parties and relevant witnesses.
- Determining if an interim measure must be implemented during an investigation.
- Coordinating with local management and relevant third parties, to obtain internal support to facilitate investigative work (i.e. interpreters, scheduling of the parties).
- Collecting relevant evidence that is in line with the scope of the investigation from all sources, and ability to properly assess evidence.
- Preparing, and where necessary, updating any documentation required for the parties’ signature.
- Drafting, detailed, clear, and concise investigation reports in line with the HRHO directives, laws, and regulations, including credibility assessments, analyses, conclusions, and recommendations, as required.
- Assessing probable impact of investigation outcomes.
- Applying relevant notions in law and the ability to research jurisprudence and include, where appropriate, in the investigation report.
- Appraising the Senior Director on the progress and conclusion of the investigations.
- Participating and testifying in legal proceedings, as required.
- Understanding collective agreements and their impact on investigations, while adhering to procedural standards for Works Councils and other labor groups.
- Sharing conclusions of investigation with relevant stakeholders, as needed.
- Providing guidance and support to stakeholders on best practices for preventing and addressing harassment and promoting a culture of respect and civility.
- Providing guidance to employees (unionized and management), on information contained in applicable workplace policies and processes. Additionally, on specific issues related to harassment, violence, sexual harassment, discrimination, and other policy violations.
- Analyzing data from complaints and investigations to discover areas for improvement in workplaces with ongoing or systematic concerns.
- Conducting workplace climate assessments, as needed, to foster a safe and healthy work environment.
- Staying abreast of relevant legal developments, industry trends, and best practices in workplace investigations and harassment prevention, and incorporating this knowledge into investigation procedure and training.
- Updating applicable policies and procedures, as required.
- Delivering awareness and prevention training to employees on harassment, violence, sexual harassment, discrimination, fostering a civil and respectful workplace, and how to reduce these risks in the workplace.
- Developing, contribute, and participate in appropriate work-related initiatives that promote international awareness about the HRHO.
- Maintaining accurate and confidential records of investigations, ensuring compliance with data privacy laws and internal protocols.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in law, Psychology, Human Resources, or a related field (advanced degree is preferred).
- A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience of conducting workplace investigations into allegations of workplace misconduct, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and sexual harassment. preferably in an international or multicultural environment.
- Strong knowledge of employment laws, regulations and best practices related to harassment investigations and prevention.
- Strong grasp of rules of evidence, fact-finding, and analytical/ evidence assessment skills.
- Ability to synthesize large quantities of information and identify relevant information and facts; impeccably detail oriented.
- Ability to prepare detailed, clear, and concise reports.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and written and verbal communication skills; strong client management skills and service oriented.
- Ability to prioritize competing demands and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work autonomously and be a strong team player.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality, high professionalism, and tact in communication.
- Interest in and commitment to continuous learning.
- Computer literacy (e.g.: M/S Office application, Adobe Acrobat Pro).
- Ability to travel, as required.
Desirable Qualifications (Assets)
- Certification in workplace investigations or relevant professional credentials.
- Airline experience or experience working in a large corporation.
- Fluency in multiple languages.
- Experience working in cross-cultural environments.
