What you can expect from this position:
Working with the Supervisor Engineering Data Operations, this position will keep building and site technical data up to date and accurate and providing map development and publishing services supporting all GTAA departments using an assortment of Computer Aided Drafting and Design, Building Information Modeling, Geographic Information Systems and Photogrammetric software. In addition, the position will review all construction project submissions and ensure GTAA data requirements are addressed.
As an Engineering Data Technologist:
- Ensure all foundational airport mapping data and associated information is current and accurate
- Using technologies, systems and applications to perform data updates resulting from construction and other airport projects, studies and reports
- Receive and file technical documents and data related to airport construction including digital and hard copy construction project drawings and documentation, inventories, reports, manuals, CADD and GIS data sets, photography and microfiche
- Review data and drawing submissions from construction projects to report on the data’s alignment to GTAA standards, ensure product quality is acceptable and accurate to within prescribed tolerance levels, all as documented in the GTAA CADD Standard Guide
- Create custom drawings, maintains map book products and develops data for digital display and publication
- Provide informal one on one training for staff using technical data applications supported by Engineering Data
- Maintain and enhance knowledge of the latest geo-spatial and information management software, file formats and technologies (CADD, GIS, BIM, AM/FM), through formal training, internet research, attendance at seminars and conferences and review of trial software
This unionized position has an hourly wage of $41.72, based on a 37.5 hour work week. If you are the selected candidate, you must be available to commence the duties of the position once a selection decision has been made. As part of the recruitment, you may be required to complete a practical test.
Candidates with relevant external experience must provide references with their applications in order to confirm this experience.
This is the role for you, if you have:
- University or College degree in Cartography, Geography or Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and/or Technologist diploma in one of the following fields: Engineering, Architecture, Survey, Civil, Cartography, GIS or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience
- 5 years’ experience as an engineering or architectural technician/technologist
- 5 years’ experience working with applications and data associated with computer aided drafting and design, and geographic information systems
- 3 years’ experience with document management systems, examples include, but not limited to: ProjectWise, MS Sharepoint, Autodesk Construction Cloud
- Ability to obtain and retain Transportation Security Clearance at the designated level for the position
Knowledge and Skills you bring, that set you up for success:
- Ability to interpret building and civil infrastructure, design, construction and record drawings and extract relevant data required for updating GTAA foundational mapping data sets
- Expertise in geo-spatial data formats and ability to convert and transform multiple data inputs into required formats and co-ordinate systems
- Expertise with various mapping technologies and systems to extract, transform and load
- Ability to print and plot customized map products
- Knowledge of and experience in the use of BIM applications, Revit, and supported formats
- Knowledge of relational databases to extract data and convert files effectively to meet business requirements
- Knowledge of record, document and data management techniques and systems
- Ability to learn and understand data standards and its importance for handling airport technical data
- Understanding of how GTAA foundational mapping data sets relate to the basic principles of asset management for buildings, utilities and infrastructure
- Intimately familiar with computer equipment and standard office software applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, Project, PowerPoint)
- Ability to quickly adapt to new software, technologies and data formats associated with geo-spatial technologies
