Summary
The Engineering Technician I position calls for a dedicated and talented individual who will take charge in the design, procurement, construction, and upkeep of test equipment systems, which are crucial to facilitating and accelerating the project development timelines for multiple engineering endeavors. The role is highly collaborative, requiring the technician to work synergistically with ATP software, mechanical, and electrical engineering teams, as well as the Model shop, to ensure that both development and manufacturing functions are equipped with the appropriate testing apparatus systems. This individual will play an integral role in making sure that the engineering teams have the tools and equipment necessary to validate and verify product designs and processes.
Local to Lake Zurich with the ability to work onsite in Lake Zurich, and Waukegan facilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential duties and responsibilities include the following, other duties as assigned.
- Work onsite daily at the Astronics CSC Engineering facility.
- Support engineering development activities focusing on acceptance test procedures, functional tests, and firmware programming software verification.
- Procure required materials for test equipment in line with development schedules.
- Manage procurement and assembly of open frame stations for development and factory use.
- Organize, label, and maintain test harnesses, ATP station equipment lists, and BOMs.
- Track calibration records for all test equipment, ensuring proper labeling and documentation for new devices.
- Maintain software version logs for Open Frames and Test Stations.
- Collaborate in designing open frame units, test stations, test harnesses, and other support equipment.
- Utilize AutoCAD for designing test harnesses in conjunction with mechanical/electrical engineering support.
- Lead assembly and testing phases for test equipment, assisting in design, debugging, and maintenance efforts.
- Train factory personnel on the use of ATP and programming stations.
- Assist in transitioning ATP Stations and Open Frames to the factory, providing support during pilot builds.
- Provide support for Design Validation Testing (DVT) and qualification testing as time permits.
- Facilitate thermal, drop, and other required testing activities.
- Display a hands-on, detail-oriented approach and possess a positive, sleeves-rolled-up attitude to ensure successful program execution.
- Implement and comply with all ethical and legal compliance requirements.
- Adapt to additional duties and functions as needed.
- Possess a working knowledge of ISO/9001/14000/13485 and AS9100 processes.
Qualifications
The Engineering Technician I holds a vital role in ensuring that testing resources are available and maintained to keep project timelines on track. This position requires a unique blend of practical hands-on experience, technical design knowledge, and collaboration skills to facilitate the successful development and implementation of engineering projects.
Required:
- Education: Working towards or completion of an Associate degree in Engineering.
- Experience: A minimum of ten years working with electro-mechanical systems, training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Skills: Detail-oriented, proactive team player, methodical self-starter with the ability to complete projects efficiently.
- Systems Knowledge:
- Basic familiarity with Windows and Linux OS as well as networking protocols.
- Strong proficiency with Windows applications (Excel, PowerPoint).
- Expertise in SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills.
