Collins Aerospace Materials & Process Engineering Department has an opening for a 2025 Chemical Engineering/Materials Science Engineering spring/summer co-op. The role requires working with internal engineering customers and suppliers to assist with materials and process (M&P) evaluations. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing materials characterization, providing analytical services, conducting root cause and failure investigations, and working with external suppliers to ensure part quality.
This role is onsite, in Rockford, Illinois.
What
You Will Do:
- You will interpret specification requirements and communicate with Collins Operations sites and suppliers as required.
- You will evaluate hardware for compliance to an engineering drawing to ensure all material and special process related requirements are met.
- You will write Formal Engineering Reports to document findings
- You will do short term project management and collaboration with Collins engineering teams to solve materials and process challenges.
What
You Will Learn:
- You will learn training and skill development to support RRCA and process improvement activities.
- You will learn to apply knowledge learned through academics to validate hardware and/or process conforms to related specification requirements.
- You will learn to interpret aerospace material drawings and specifications.
- You will be trained to operate and interpret results from state-of-the-art analytical instrumentation.
Qualifications
You Must Have:
- Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.
- U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or granted refugee or asylee status) as defined here: https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-22/chapter-I/subchapter-M/part-120/subpart-C/section-120.62.
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Proficient knowledge using Microsoft Office products.
- Materials Science/Chemical Engineering major.
- Currently enrolled with at least 30 credit hours earned to date toward a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science or related field from an accredited college or university.

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
