The Solution Architect plays a pivotal role within the Enterprise Integration Team at Air Canada, focusing on scoping and designing integration projects. This position facilitates seamless integrations between Air Canada and partner systems through the development of API-driven, Message Queuing, and Event streaming solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Lead scoping phases of major integration projects, defining the Enterprise Integration Team's role.
- Partner with business and IT teams to establish functional and non-functional requirements, including performance and security.
- Promote the Enterprise Integration Platform, educating stakeholders on its benefits.
- Design optimal solutions that maximize availability, scalability, and reusability.
- Create comprehensive solution architecture documents, including context diagrams and use cases.
- Present solutions to the architecture board, simplifying complex designs for diverse audiences.
- Support implementation with internal and external development teams, serving as a subject matter expert.
- Establish and maintain integration standards and guidelines for consistency across projects.
- Conduct workshops and training sessions on integration technologies and best practices.
- Monitor and evaluate integration performance against defined KPIs and SLAs.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by proposing innovative ideas and solutions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering.
- Minimum of six (6) years of IT experience, with strong integration technology expertise (e.g., Mulesoft Anypoint, IBM App Connect).
- At least three (3) years as an architect for mission-critical systems.
- Proficient in API technologies: XML, JSON, SOAP, REST, HTTP, and authentication patterns.
- Experience in project scoping and defining high-level project requirements.
- Skilled in documenting solution architecture: AS IS / TO BE / transition states, UML diagrams.
- Ability to design robust, scalable solutions with disaster recovery considerations.
- Experience leading external development teams, managing requirements and solution documentation.
- Familiarity with Agile and waterfall methodologies, and relational databases.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of conveying technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Strong project management skills, able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Interest in new technologies and the airline industry, with a proactive work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or MBA.
- Experience with integration tools and API management technologies.
- Knowledge of event streaming, messaging, and cloud platforms.
- Java development experience and familiarity with RFPs and data architecture.
- Experience with cloud deployments, load testing, and connectivity challenges.
- Understanding of data privacy regulations and compliance standards.
- Certifications in relevant technologies (e.g., Mulesoft, IBM).
- Experience with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines to enhance integration deployment efficiency.
