Alternatively as part of the Defence Engineering team you could be located at our UK GTC in Bristol or our GKN site in Luton with travel as appropriate to the Isle of Wight facility to support the development of Systems Engineering based products for manufacture.

The Engineering Team Lead (Electrical/Mechanical Systems Engineering) manages the delivery of Engineering Work Packages/Tasks agreed with a Chief Engineer/Programme Manager (or equivalent) to meet overall Programme and Business Objectives reporting to the Chief Engineer (of the same programme).
As the Engineering Team Lead you’ll draw on your Electrical/Mechanical Systems engineering background and product lifecycle awareness to progress a variety of NPI projects. With sound experience in technical working and risk management and committed to development of own skills and professional network. You will utilise good communication skills to confidently engage with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders. You’ll support in building a new team and will provide leadership to a small team of approximately eight to ten colleagues.
This is a very exciting and potentially career defining opportunity. You will be an integral member of the team embarking on a significant and challenging technology development project. This four year project will be a major steppingstone towards achieving the next generation of avionics for customer Tilt-Rotors.
The project will operate from our GKN facilities in Cowes, Isle of Wight and there is the requirement to be flexible with International travel within Europe and to U.S. (approximately every two months). We offer hybrid working, the opportunity to work from home up to two days per week dependent on the needs of the business.
For this opportunity we will provide a relocation support package (if applicable) to the Isle of Wight, for the successful applicant should this location be of interest.
Job Accountabilities
- Deliver Engineering deliverables, meeting the applicable Technical Requirements (including Manufacturability, Certification / Qualification Requirements) against agreed Schedule and Cost Objectives
- Implement and execute cost and schedule Control: NRC Planning, Tracking / Control and Reporting through Earned Value Management
- Support Chief Engineer in execution of program risk management by identifying technical risks and determining associated Mitigation Actions
- Initiate corrective measures in case of deviations from planned schedule and budget objectives
- Manage change and scope control
- Provide day-to-day operational management to engineering project team
- Identify work packages suitable for Off-load to external Suppliers including drafting statements of work
- Generate technical reports and presentations
- Manage and develop requirements and specifications
What You'll Bring
Essential
To help us make a difference, you’ll bring your passion and talent for what you do along with the following skills, experience, qualifications and attributes:
- HND, or Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering
- Experience in technical project leadership including developing and coaching people
- Experience specifying and developing electrical/electronic systems
- Experience in the mechanical design, integration and test of the electrical/electronic systems
Desirable
- Experience in the Aerospace industry
- Completed Project Management Training / Courses
- Experience in CATIA v5, or similar
- Proficiency in RBE tools, e.g. DOORS
- Experience in Torquemeter Sensor Systems/Sensor Systems
