Purpose of the role
Support the performance and transformation of IAG by influencing the media environment through corporate communications.
Accountabilities
- Working with colleagues across corporate affairs and sustainability, devise and execute memorable communication campaigns.
- Identify external speaking opportunities and prepare briefing notes, speeches and communication materials for senior spokespeople.
- Think creatively about strategies to communicate IAG’s innovation, economic contribution, sustainability and strategy and performance narratives and enhance its reputation as a responsible business.
- Support on the delivery of Group financial results, writing English-language financial communication materials, as well as developing and executing media and digital communications plans.
- Respond to enquiries coming into the IAG press office, acting as a media spokesperson for the Group.
- Manage media issues and crises, devising reactive statements and briefing the Director of Corporate Affairs.
- Coordinate with IAG operating companies’ communications teams on messaging and initiatives, to ensure alignment across the Group.
- Work closely with the IAG government affairs team to create and implement media engagement supporting UK policy and stakeholder objectives.
- Build relationships with media in IAG’s key markets.
- Own measurement and analysis for the team, compiling quarterly reports to drive effective communication strategies.
- Support on internal communications when required.
Required skills & experience
- Extensive experience in corporate communications.
- Excellent written English and the ability to explain complex concepts and technical content in a simpler way.
- Significant media relations experience, strong attention to detail and the ability to act as a media spokesperson.
- Experience managing issues and the ability to have robust conversations to correct and inform reporter and commentator coverage.
- Demonstrated success of briefing spokespeople, and comfortable advising stakeholders at the most senior level.
- A proven self-starter who can think strategically and creatively to propose and execute media campaigns, owning projects from start to finish and delivering on time.
- Tact, diplomacy and discretion with the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
- Understanding of measurement and evaluation to drive effectiveness of communications.
- Self-motivated, flexible and calm under pressure.
