Job Description:
This is a Second shift opportunity within the L3Harris Environmental Testing Laboratory. The candidate will coordinate, prepare, manage, and execute testing schemes designed to take our products to the limit of their functional and structural design. The associate will be provided with approximately one (1) month of training on first shift where they will learn to operate climatic chambers designed to replicate the freezing temperatures of earth poles, the scorching temperatures of the deserts, and the humidity of the jungles. Similarly, they will learn to operate electrodynamic shakers where harsh vibration environments are reproduced to test products for their survivability to transportation, gun fire, aircraft-carrier arrests, and rocket launch conditions. The candidate will be exposed to a loud environmental laboratory, that runs year-round, and succumb to an annual Audio Grams based upon a Hearing Conservation programing.
Essential Functions:
- Must be hands-on with a strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with the use of hand and power tools
- Setup/break down complex apparatus / systems for climatic and dynamic testing
- Install instrumentation required to control and measure test parameters
- Review / understand appropriate procedures for test requirements and escalation of unresolved issues
- Must be familiar with DoD industrial MIL-STD testing methods for laboratories
- Conduct and monitor climatic and dynamic tests and document results
- Collaborate with Laboratory Management and Quality Engineering for all products not meeting / failing test requirements
- Collect test data (graphs, charts, and tabulations) and perform routine analyses to verify accuracy and completeness of data
- Ensure proper documenting/recording of test failures (equipment, unit under test, and/or personnel)
- Exhibit a high attention to detail in testing, procedures and work
- Exercise good judgement with respect to problem solving / trouble shooting and decision making
- Assist in implementing a variety of tools, jigs and fixtures that will assist in increasing testing efficiency
- Work closely with management and senior technical personnel for continuous process improvement
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that is cooperative and supportive of customers, co-workers and managers
- Perform area cleanup & housekeeping operations to maintain a professional work environment
- Observe and comply with all safety policies and procedures
- Perform other related duties of comparable complexity as directed
- Clearance if desired, ability to travel, working extended hours
Qualifications:
- Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and 6 years minimum of previous test technician experience in a laboratory or 2 years post-Secondary/Associate’s Degree with a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience.
- Experience with test equipment - programming, monitoring, collection of data, and fault diagnosis.
- Must be willing to work second shift with the possibility of a first or split shift support if required as well as occasional overtime (with short notice) when needed.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Familiarity with DoD industrial MIL-STD testing methods for laboratories.
- Hands-on with a strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with the use of hand and power tools.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required
