Johnson Service Group is looking for a Graduate Student Intern for one of our Clients in San Jose. The student intern will support the Water Quality Monitoring Program by collecting field data for reservoirs, performing data entry and quality checks, analyzing data, and drafting compliance reports.
Responsibilities:
- Learn the raw water system of Client
- Learn the analytical tools used in making operational decisions
- Improve GIS skills
- Assist with the Pilot Turbidity Monitoring Program at Uvas and Chesbro reservoirs by: Performing data collection in the field, transferring the data to a database after QA/QC and analyzing the data
- Drafting compliance reports for the Lake or Streambed Alteration Agreements (LSAA)
- Support with the ongoing effort on the assessment of percolation rates in countywide ponds and streams
- Support the asset management program
- Assist with other tasks as needed
Qualifications:
- Comfortable working outdoors and using field instruments to collect data from the creeks
- Enrolled in a graduate program with work in civil engineering, water resources management, environmental engineering, environmental studies, biology, geology, hydrogeology, or a related scientific field
- Holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental studies, biology, geology, or a related field OR The student intern shall be pursuing graduate work in Civil Engineering, Water Resources Management, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Studies, Biology, Geology, or a related field.
- Able to work 1 to 1½ years while enrolled in a graduate program.
- Available to work about 20 hours per week.
- Able to manage large data sets and to work with databases
- Experienced Microsoft Office user including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Intermediate level user of a GIS software
- Fast learner/self-motivated
- Has technical writing skills
- Possesses a California Driver’s License
Rate starting at $26/hr DOE
