What Will You Be Doing?
The Director, Airport Planning & Facilities has responsibility for airport planning and affairs along with overseeing the planning, design, construction, and implementation of facilities projects within the Company’s network including airport space, training facilities, hangars, and other corporate projects and ensuring these facilities support the Company’s operational plans.
Relative to airport planning and affairs, this position will guide the team in representing the Company in its business with airport operators, landlords and peer airlines in relation to airport development. The position will lead others in supporting the Company’s operational strategy by ensuring fiscally sound airport development opportunities are implemented and operating space meets the Company’s network, operational and growth requirements.
Essential Functions
Airport Planning & Affairs
- Executive-level relationships and communication with airports in coordination with our commercial, finance and operations teams to support our network, operations and growth plans
- Lead, engage with and drive negotiations for Use and Lease agreements with local governments, private third-parties, and other airlines to achieve corporate objectives
- Strategic planning and execution of initiatives supporting the Company’s network, operational and growth plans, including securing gates, ticket counters, and aircraft parking
- Prepare budget projections and cost distributions for airport portfolio; seek opportunities for increased efficiencies and improved customer service
- Administer leases and compliance with SOX controls
- Collaborate with airports to understand drivers and assumptions behind their annual rate setting to ensure the lowest possible rates
- Ensure that all of the Company's operational groups have the real estate they need to meet the Company's operational objectives and financial and other corporate requirements
Facilities
- Oversight of capital expenditure portfolio for headquarters, hangars, training facilities, and other corporate facilities
- Plan, implement, and supervise all large-scale facility-related projects to include design/bid/build construction projects (e.g. new hangar builds and gate/airport facilities) while ensuring compliance with Company, State, and Federal requirements
- Conduct RFPs and negotiate all facilities agreements including large-scale design/bid/build construction agreements
- Liaise with internal stakeholders and airport authority representatives on all facility projects
- Coordinate and implement space planning for HDQ projects to maximize space efficiencies, while implementing solutions in line with Company goals
Other Functions
- Administer other day-to-day tasks, as needed
- Monitor airline and airport industry developments and communicate updates and plans to address as applicable
- Assist with special projects as assigned
- Develop improved procedures for more efficient department operations
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Legal, or Aviation Management; Master’s degree preferred
- Over 10 years of experience in a relevant field
- Management experience with emphasis on lease/contract negotiation, financial modeling and strategic planning
- Budget and forecast experience
- Relevant experience with airline or aviation real estate transactions
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Thorough understanding and knowledge of aviation industry including budgeting, scheduling, construction and project management and airline flight operations preferred
- Ability to travel on Company-supported initiatives up to 60% of the time
- Ability to define problems and work through solutions in a collaborative environment
- Highly ethical and trustworthy leader with professional demeanor that will represent the Company to critical external audiences to support Company goals
- Aptitude to synthesize and present complex, strategic, and often ambiguous matters to varying audiences, up to and including the CFO and CEO
- Strong ability to manage multiple competing priorities, projects, and deadlines, balancing high-profile asks from the executive team with operationally critical day-to-day tasks
- Demonstrated ability to effectively negotiate complex arrangements
- Ability to manage and develop the skillsets and competencies of a diverse team
- Proficiency in Excel
