Driven by the vision of sustainable aerospace innovation, GKN Aerospace develop new design concepts for lower weight and integrated functionality for future aviation. The Global Technology Center develops the next generation designs, materials, manufacturing methods and inspection solutions for GKN Engines.
The department of Composite & Inspection Technology now has an open position for a Simulation Engineer with emphasis on design of process and manufacturing technologies for Composite materials in our aero engine structures.
We are looking for a Simulation Research Engineer to our Research Centre with a strong interest in composites and simulations for manufacturing processes and emphasis on Aerospace applications. You will simulate processes and test out processes for our future Engine component designs and lead work packages where we work together with our University partners on Research questions for composite materials.
Job Responsibilities
You will work with development of the next generation technologies for compressor and fan structures in composite and mixed composite/metal materials. The work is performed in internal technology development projects, technology demonstrators and in research projects often done in bilateral or multilateral collaboration with our partners in the EU as well as in the USA. Your work will typically consist of:
- Develop simulation technology related to structural performance of CFRP composite structures.
- Develop structural finite element (FE) models. Both global and detailed local models, to predict progressive damage.
- Correlate simulation models to physical tests.
- Develop FE models for process simulation of CFRP composites. This can involve forming, draping, curing and infusion.
- Implement research level material models via subroutines.
- Be involved in test activities, from coupon to component level.
- Size metal interface hardware used in component testing.
- Size demonstrator structures.
- Be innovative.
Job Qualifications
We are looking for you who wants to work in a global cross discipline team with design, material and mechanical Engineers developing composite components for GKN Aerospace Engine Systems. You can take responsibility of maintenance and development of process equipment and materials used in our programs. You are interested in research in the field of carbon fibre reinforced polymer composite materials for engine structures.
To Succed In This Position It Is Required
- You are a Simulation (CAE) Engineer with an MSc degree in Materials or Mechanical Engineering with a strong interest in finite element modelling.
- You have a basic course in composite mechanics.
- You have the ability to interpret the research program needs regarding material selection and proper design criteria and have good ability to communicate and present results internally as well as with our research partners
- You preferably have experience with Ansys and LS-Dyna software’s.
- You are proficient in English, which the GKN Group language

Location and travel expecations:
Trollhättan Sweden, therefore the applicant should be able to obtain the right to live and work in Sweden.
Travel will occur. Travel to other locations in EU/US is included in the role if necessary.
