Job Summary

The Manager Operations Research Performance and Strategy is a new Team within the Revenue Management Operations Research and delivers on our Purpose by contributing to the revenue generation capabilities of Southwest Airlines. This role will lead a Team that ensures Revenue Management and Pricing systems achieve high-level performance by providing statistical analysis, technical innovations, and simulation modeling. The Manager Ops Research Performance and Strategy is a strategic thinker and strong communicator who is readyto drive the future of Southwest Airlines.

Responsibilities
- Enable Yield Management and Pricing to be more effective and efficient by consulting on difficult problems, being a subject matter expert in a host of areas and improving the base forecast and optimization of the Revenue Management System through consistent innovation
- Collaborate closely with Partners in Commercial and Operational Departments to develop revenue optimization strategies
- Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with all levels of Internal Customers
- Develop tools for more efficient data gathering and for strategic reporting and data analysis
- Partner with Sr Leaders, Technology, and 3rd party vendors to improve systems and therefore produce optimal revenue
- Responsible for managing Passenger forecast and inventory optimization using complex revenue management systems
- Seek new and creative opportunities to use Pricing technologies to improve effectiveness of RM System
- Train, coach, and mentor cohort’s business acumen and/or technical skills
- Understand general pricing strategies and think strategically about opportunities for pricing driven revenue gain
- Partner with Technology on pricing and revenue management initiatives and testing
- May perform other job duties as directed by Employee’s Leaders
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, and people leadership
- Knowledge in Yield Management theory and practice, Pricing strategy and execution, reservations system, Global Distribution Systems, forecasting and optimization theory
- Advanced skills with Microsoft products: Excel (e.g. pivot tables, VBA), Access, Outlook, Teams, etc.
- Advanced skills in SQL and database management and working knowledge of JAVA, Python, or Alteryx
- Ability to understand the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making
- Ability to motivate, develop, and direct people as they work, identifying the best people for the job
- Ability to apply innovative Revenue Management and Pricing techniques that contribute to the organization’s strategic plan
- Ability to combine and analyze data to form general rules or conclusions (includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events)
- Ability to accurately predict positive or negative outcomes of data-drive recommendations
Experience
Demonstrated experience in directly or indirectly leading team(s)
Fully functioning, broad knowledge in:
Yield Management including theory, strategy and practice (customer demand, bid price controls, dual RBD, etc.)
Pricing including theory, strategy and practice (Fare Basis Codes, ATPCO rules, etc.)
Reservation Systems/Inventory Systems
Working with and building large and complex datasets
High level analytical problem solving
Two or more: SQL, Alteryx, VBA, Tableau, Java, Access, Python
Preferred: Experience in Yield, Pricing, or Operations Research
Preferred: Experience within Amadeus NRM and/or SWA Pricing tools
Preferred: Experience with SQL, Alteryx, Teradata, Redshift
Physical Abilities
Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
Other Qualifications
Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines.
Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines.
Pay & Benefits:
Competitive market salary from $130,750 - $145,300* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
