Job Description:

The Seat Map Consultant supports our Purpose by joining the Seat Map Strategy Team, where they’ll be a champion of seat map capabilities for fare and ancillary products. As shared in our Commercial Transformation initiatives, Southwest expects to begin selling assigned seats in the second half of 2025, with its first flights operating with the new model in the first half of 2026. This Consultant will set and manage rules around how we use the seat map, and they’ll work closely with Revenue Management and Marketing Teams to ensure seat revenue is maximized and that the right product mix/constructs are in place to do so. The Seat Map Consultant is excited to bring Southwest into this next chapter and embrace innovation in this space. They’ll help to pilot the future of Southwest Airlines.

Job Summary
- This role will develop, drive and manage a set of capabilities that support seat map optimization across a set of competing objectives as defined by Leaders – primarily ticket revenue maximization via fare and ancillary products – balanced with product strategy, Customer strategy goals, desired long-term Customer behaviors, and operational / Employee objectives and impacts. This position is responsible for the planning, execution, and performance of the utilization of the seat map to meet these objectives while working closely with several partners throughout the organization.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute strategies, capabilities, and processes to meet seat map strategy objectives for the utilization of seats
- Oversee the development and launch of new policies, tactics, and capabilities to ensure long term management of the seat map meets business needs
- Work closely with Revenue Management to optimize product pricing, and implement and manage effective pricing strategies for seating products to maximize revenue and profitability while maintaining competitive positioning
- Develop and maintain a ‘playbook’ for tactics and decisioning through the booking curve related to seat availability, working closely with other business groups to ensure capabilities and understanding is in place to implement
- Develop and maintain a Customer view through the booking curve related to seating to ensure we are able to support a competitive Customer experience related to seating
- Work closely with Digital, Technology, and external vendors as needed to ensure seat map Customer visualization aligns with product strategies and to drive forward and implement enhancements as needed
- Monitor product performance, track key metrics, and identify areas for improvement

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Skilled in mathematics, analytics, and problem solving, with focus on KPI and performance management
- Ability to demonstrate high emotional intelligence in various situations dealing with both internal and external stakeholders
- Skilled in communication by listening intently, questioning appropriately, and articulating clearly in both written and verbal formats
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other departments in order to influence business decisions
- Ability to handle high volumes of work, prioritize effectively, and hit promised timelines with high-quality deliverables with minimal leadership oversight
- Skilled in deconstructing complex problems into opportunity areas
- Ability to use multiple types of quantitative and qualitative data to prioritize and value product and capability enhancements
- Ability to use design thinking mindsets to solve complex problems and advocate for new solutions
- Knowledge of project management practices and ability to hold multiple delivery teams accountable for meeting business objectives
Education:
- Required: High School Diploma or GED
Experience
Advanced level experience, seasoned and specialized knowledge in:
Managing seat map (or related capacity-constrained inventory) to optimize output, revenue, or other business objectives
Leading complex cross-functional initiatives and aligning stakeholders at all levels
Developing strategies, plans, and solutions to address complex or ambiguous problems
Project management
Change management
Product management
Preferred: Experience in seat map optimization
Preferred: Experience in the airline industry, particularly in pricing capabilities
Preferred: Experience / exposure to finance or product
Physical Abilities
- Ability to perform work duties from limited space workstation/desk/office area for extended periods of time
- Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
- Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
Other Qualifications
- Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
- Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
Pay & Benefits:
Competitive market salary from $102,500 per year to $114,000 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
