Job Description:
We are currently seeking a Tooling Design Engineer to join our dynamic team at L3Harris to create essential tools for manufacturing processes. Essential Functions:
- Develop innovative tooling designs to improve manufacturing processes and product quality, while actively engaging in problem-solving to address and preempt potential issues.
- Collaborate with manufacturing engineers to understand process requirements, ensuring tool designs meet or exceed these needs through effective troubleshooting and iterative design.
- Utilize CAD software to create and modify detailed tooling drawings and specifications, applying problem-solving to optimize design for manufacturability and functionality.
- Perform rigorous analysis on tooling concepts and prototypes to validate functionality and performance, solving problems encountered during testing phases.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, quality assurance, and procurement, to ensure seamless integration of new tooling into production lines, addressing any challenges that arise during implementation.
- Drive initiatives to reduce tooling costs, increase efficiency, and minimize production downtime by identifying and solving inefficiencies within the tooling lifecycle.
- Ensure tool designs comply with all safety standards and ergonomic considerations for manufacturing personnel, proactively solving for potential safety concerns.
- Conduct regular reviews and updates of tooling designs based on feedback from production and quality control, employing a problem-solving mindset to refine and enhance tool performance.
- Apply Lean Manufacturing principles and Six Sigma techniques to optimize tooling design and fabrication processes, using these methodologies to systematically solve complex problems.
- Prepare comprehensive documentation, reports, and presentations to communicate tooling design concepts and performance metrics to stakeholders, clearly outlining solutions to design challenges.
- Travel: 25%
- Ability to obtain a US Security Clearance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior tool design experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior tool design experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior tool design experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- PTC Creo preferred.
- Experience with Solidworks and/or Autocad.
