Materials Engineer - Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMC)

As the Materials Engineer - Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMC) at the Rolls-Royce High Temperature Composites facility, you will provide knowledge and expertise and execute tasks on the development of Ceramic Matrix Composite materials, processes, models, and analysis methods, the application of materials to the design, test, manufacture, and service operation of systems, the approval, validation and control of raw materials and / or component manufacturing processes, and the execution of failure or defect investigations.

Key Accountabilities:
- A key contributor to development and validation of Ceramic Matrix Composite (CMC) materials and components
- Resolve problems through evaluative judgements. Analyses factual information from multiple sources, interprets results and identifies effective solutions by applying their own technical knowledge, expertise and engineering judgement
- Point of contact within CMC materials engineering and to share subject matter knowledge across the function
- Understand company business objectives and ensure that the work they do supports this; To act in accordance with both the company values and those associated with being a professional engineer
- Actively promote, encourage and support the identification and implementation of continuous improvement both within and outside their immediate sphere and prompt action across the wider team
Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 2+ years of experience with petrol chemicals or ceramic material development, testing, and characterization, OR
- Master’s degree in Engineering, OR
- PhD in Engineering
- In order to be eligible for consideration you must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident
Preferred Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience with CMC material development, testing, and characterization OR
- Experience with CMC processing methods such as chemical vapor infiltration and slurry processing, testing methods, and Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) methods
- Experience with developing or using process models for chemical processes
- Understanding of Process Structure Property (PSP) relationship of CMC materials
- Ability to apply logical, analytical and innovative thinking to a range of technical problems
- Knowledge and experience of product integrity / liability and certification frameworks
- ISO9001 / AS9100 experience
