Job Description:
L3Harris is looking for a IP Tier 2 Network Operations Engineer who will support Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) programs. This individual will be a key member of the Network Operations Control Center (NOCC) supporting a geographically dispersed field team located throughout North America. The IP Tier 2 Network Operations Engineer will directly interface with both internal and external customers and service providers. They will be responsible for providing IP Tier II level assistance to other subgroups of the FTI program, supporting Operations, managing special projects, resolving issues, and performing on call duties in a 24/7 environment.
Essential Functions:
- Provide technical support for IP services for a private network. Support requires physical layer data link network layer knowledge.
- Monitor, analyze and troubleshoot network problems within an operations center utilizing network management and monitoring tools.
- Monitor the alarm conditions on the network to proactively identify and minimize disruption and impact to the network.
- Employ test methods to analyze channelized/unchanneled T1 and T3 utilizing DACs equipment.
- Utilize test methods to analyze/troubleshoot Ethernet; IP; Frame Relay; ATM; WAN; LAN.
- Work with Local Exchange Carriers ILECs IXCs to resolve WAN problems.
- Work with onsite technicians remotely to resolve local issues.
- Expertise in remote maintenance and repair of the following network equipment is preferred: Cisco, Sycamore, and APC.
- Resolve problems using internal and external groups as needed to correct trouble on the network and interact with the customer.
- Provide Tier 1 guidance and training and provide Tier 2 escalation support to Tier 1.
- Assist in Tier 3 projects including site upgrades and IP service acceptance testing. Will also provide deployment and implementation support for IP service Moves, Adds and Change activities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree or equivalent with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 6 years of prior related experience.
- (2) years of experience with data protocols including TCP/IP.
- (2) years of experience with routing protocols such as OSPF and BGP.
- CCNA Certification.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Domain knowledge of data protocols including Frame Relay and ATM.
- Understanding of signaling protocols, TDM framing/timing, IP based networks and SONET infrastructure.
- Ability to read wiring diagrams or engineering prints to determine connectivity.
- CCNP Certification.
