Job Description:
We are seeking a skilled Optics and Photonics Engineering Specialist to join our team! The ideal candidate will have a strong background in optics and photonics, with hands-on experience in assembling, testing, and maintaining optical and photonic equipment. The engineering specialist will work closely with engineers and scientists to support the development and production of advanced optical systems.
Essential Functions:
- Employee should be able to work independently with guidance from engineering to perform set up, testing and troubleshooting of free space optical products
- Shall be able to complete a broad variety of tasks including: product packaging, shipping, receiving, free space optical alignment, free space optical test, mechanical assembly, machine maintenance and test station trouble-shooting
- Build, align and qualify precision opto-mechanical assemblies and systems
- Disassemble and re-assemble, align and qualify subassemblies and systems down to piece-part level
- Inspect optical components for damage
- Clean UV optical components, such as mirrors, beam splitters, polarizers, wave plates, and lenses
- De-bond and re-mount optical components in lens cells
- Conduct calibration and burn-in tests on optical systems
- Prepare and follow engineering work order flow tags and prepare acceptance testing procedures
- Work with quality control to validate hardware components and assemblies
- Work to meet tight schedule requirements
- Understand and adhere to drawing requirements for production builds
- Handle and clean optical components for high reliability products
- Understand and adhere to laser safety standards
- Maintain equipment and tool calibration
- Work with engineering to evaluate and implement process improvements
- Ensure proper operation of equipment by performing scheduled preventative maintenance
- Actively participate in building a collaborative and productive team environment
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree optics, photonics, physics, or a related field with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.
- Experience assembling and disassembling parts and components
- Experience and understanding of cleanroom protocols and ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) safety precautions
- Experience reading and interpreting technical drawings and schematics
- Prior or current experience with standard computer software, including Microsoft Office and CAD tools

- Proficiency with optical measurement instruments (e.g., power meters, spectrometers, interferometers)
