ResponsibilitiesThe Manager, Environmental Health & Safety plays a vital role in supporting the ability of Spirit Airlines to remain in compliance with all applicable governmental standards and/or regulations relating to occupational safety & health and the environment (OSHA & EPA). They function as the primary point of contact with the respective governmental agencies and serve as the subject-matter expert for internal stakeholders working to determine, establish, and/or maintain compliance with applicable governmental requirements. They are responsible for internal investigations as required, tracking and analyzing injuries, and all applicable reporting to governmental agencies. They support departmental management to ensure all program components are successfully in compliance to help avoid violations. The Manager will work with the business on deficiencies in these areas and develop strategies to ensure workplace safety for all employees.
- Lead a motivated team in the development, growth, and goal achievement.
- Responsible for maintaining both the Safety & Health Manual & Safety, Health, Environmental Manual including all interfaces and changes to standards.
- Responsible for ensuring compliance with all local Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) for Spirit locations.
- Responsible for maintaining positive and professional relationships with government agencies.
- Investigate reported safety hazards at any facility and develop any needed corrective action/mitigation plan.
- Partner with Operating Divisions to ensure robust analysis of safety risk.
- Partner with Human Resources on analysis of employee injuries and strategies for their reduction.
- Conduct incident investigations related to employee injuries.
- Coordinate OSHA-related requirements and standards within the Safety & Regulatory Compliance Division.
- Liaison as POC as subject matter expert on inquiries/investigations by regulatory agencies as well as operational divisions.
- Support the Aircraft Safe Drinking Water Program, ensure appropriate data are entered in the EPA ARCS database, and provide liaison with EPA.
- Develop environmental impact and public controversy statements for submission to FAA as required.
- Perform facility inspections to ensure proper storage and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Design, plan, coordinate, and conduct appropriate training for assigned teams.
- Audit operational divisions to ensure compliance with all regulatory standards and records.
- Responsible for submission of injury data to OSHA and Bureau of Labor & Statistics Submission & EPA reports to include fuel spills, potable testing results, etc. (as required).
- May perform other responsibilities as assigned. Responsibilities and duties may change when circumstances dictate (e.g., emergencies change in workload, rush jobs or technical developments).
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
- 5-7 years’ experience required.
- Additional Certifications: OSHA 30
- Past experience implementing/managing corporate OSHA/Safety programs.
- Ability to travel to Spirit locations to perform audits.
- Knowledge of OSHA workplace safety regulations.
- Familiarity with FAA Operation Specifications.
- Familiarity with Safety Management System (SMS).
- Communicate program requirements and liaise with stakeholders across the company.
- Represent the company when communicating with regulators.
- Work under pressure to achieve 100% accuracy while meeting inflexible deadlines.
