The role:
To drive the disciplined delivery of BA’s transformation portfolio, ensuring real impact of the transformation is captured and communicated. Lead essential Centre of Excellence (CoE) services including coordinating governance, delivering in-depth analysis and insights, developing and optimising tools, promoting best practices, and building transformation capabilities across the organisation. Support the overall management, development and continuous improvement of the CoE function.
What you’ll do:
- Implement BA’s CoE strategy and direction, championing best practice of this discipline and agile ways of working across Transformation and, where appropriate, the rest of IAG.
- Act as a strategic advisor, developing and collating information/data from various sources, providing relevant recommendations /insights to aid the Transformation Leadership in decision making and preparation for key meetings
- Effectively manage the Transformation portfolio Cadence, including the creation of content and strategic narratives to support key senior leadership forums -(incCTO, CEO updates, BA & IAG MC and Boards)
- Manage the reporting and timely communication of BA’s portfolio status to the relevant areas & stakeholders-including all respective initiatives, programmes, projects and associated KPIs.
- Continuously review and improve CoEprocedures and processes, building on industry best practice and, where appropriate, aligning with IAG.
- Manage the pipeline process for new initiative requests into the BA roadmap, including resource, cost, scope and time/duration assessment and support in the creation of recommendation(s) to MC on the rank/prioritisation within the BA roadmap.
- Responsible for the ongoing maintenance of the multi-year BA roadmap, calling out interdependencies between areas and areas of risk
- Lead on Transformation Tool development, maintenance and supplier management
- Produce portfolio resource demand forecast based on the multi-year BA roadmap , continuously monitoring and reporting on resource levels working on the roadmap, including planning, estimating and risk mitigation activities where applicable
- Define and promote Transformation best practices, identify Transformation capability needs and develop learning packages for the Transformation community, such as Learning Pathways and skill-specific modules.
- Ensure BA’s delivery framework is being applied consistently in line with best practice to support the scoping and mobilising of programmes and projects
- Line management responsibility for a CoEteam including performance management and capability development
- Manage and monitor specific risk, issues, assumptions and dependencies in the the BA roadmap Portfolio. Escalating to the respective Head(s) of Transformation
What you’ll bring to British Airways:
- Excellent effective leadership, communication, influencing at all levels-Including CTO, CEO and MC level (written and verbal)
- Ability to create engaging, insightful and strategic narratives to support senior leadership discussions & updates at MC and board levels.
- Ability to build strong, positive relationships with key collaborators across Transformation and the business
- Demonstrable experience of creating and running a successful Portfolio Management Office function in a complex Programme & Portfolio environment across functions and directorates.
- Ability to effectively lead and motivate individuals & teams (direct/indirect), working collaboratively to delivery results.
- Good individual and team management
- Ability to work under pressure and manage complex and often unique issues creating relevant clarity in areas of ambiguity to force decisions
- Resource planning, scheduling and forecasting
- Budget and Benefit tracking and consolidation
- Risk Management
- Ability to implement plans to overcome obstacles and achieve goals.
- Ability to develop and implement ideas that benefit our business, using your understanding of internal commercial insight and the latest external thinking.
Your experience:
- Experience of working closely with senior leaders
- Portfolio Management Office qualification (P3O).
- Degree qualification is advantageous but not essential.
- Professional Project Management accreditation desirable e.g. Prince2/APMP (Association of Project Management Professionals)
- Agile methodology (SAFe) desirable
