As the Assistant Chief Engineer – Safety you hold a key strategic role to define, and support delivery of the PWR3 (Dreadnought) Safety strategy and the associated programmes of work.
You will lead and develop a small team and you will have exposure and coverage across all product areas of the business. You will regularly be interfacing external customer stakeholders at all levels, participating in formal reviews associated with safety governance and assurance, and will have the opportunity to travel to customer operational bases. As the Assistant Chief Engineer – Safety you will support both the PWR1 and PWR2, and Dreadnought Chief Engineer’s roles. You will develop and implement the overall PWR3 – Dreadnought safety strategy across the product lifecycle and ensure that the associated solutions are delivered to time, cost, and quality, whilst ensuring appropriate safety and engineering governance is applied. The role line reports to the Chief Engineer PWR1 and PWR2 to enable close strategic alignment with the Safety Case Delivery Team within the Services DBU, provide a clear line of sight for the Dreadnought PWR3 Safety Case at the point of entry into service and to maximise learning from experience from current class safety campaigns. The role takes delegation and functional accountability from the Chief Engineer Dreadnought and will work closely with the Chief Engineer Dreadnought team.

What you will be doing:
With this attractive opportunity you will have the opportunity to:
- Provide strategic engineering direction for all emergent and planned Dreadnought safety campaigns undertaken by the business.
- Act as the primary point of contact for strategic Dreadnought safety case matters with internal specialists and suppliers, external customers, and other stakeholders.
- Provide safety programme leadership and comply with the Engineering function's policies and within the Chief Engineer’s Terms of Reference.
- Maintain appropriate engagement with internal/external stakeholders, to ensure that nuclear safety case activities being undertaken are correctly focussed, integrated, efficient, and effective.
- Represent the Chief Engineer in discussions with customers and other stakeholders.

To be successful in this role you will need to have:
- Technical Leadership experience in a highly regulated environment Defence/Nuclear/Aerospace/Oil and Gas.
- Knowledge of product safety & regulatory requirements.
- Experience dealing with customers and senior stakeholders meetings/reviews/committees.
- Project Management capabilities and experience.
- Relevant Science/Engineering degree.
