OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Piping Principal Designer to lead complex piping design efforts in support of nuclear and DOE-regulated projects. This role requires deep technical expertise, the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and experience supporting safety-critical facilities and systems.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in nuclear piping design, DOE codes and standards, and 3D modeling, and is comfortable serving as a technical lead and mentor within a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership for piping design activities with minimal direction
- Lead and/or supervise junior and intermediate designers
- Prepare and check piping design deliverables including:
- Piping layouts and drawings
- 3D models and isometrics
- Piping plans, sections, and details
- Execute work in compliance with project quality requirements, procedures, and client standards
- Coordinate with engineering disciplines, procurement, vendors, and subcontractors
- Support construction activities, field changes, and as-built documentation
- Perform walkdowns and field verification as needed
- Ensure designs meet applicable codes, standards, and DOE requirements
- Support administrative and technical documentation related to design changes and project execution
Required Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship required
- Associate degree in a related technical field or a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience
- Working knowledge of applicable piping codes and standards, including DOE Orders
- Experience supporting nuclear or DOE-regulated facilities
- Strong background in:
- Piping design and layout
- 3D modeling and 2D CADD
- Design verification and checking
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation
- Experience working in a multi-disciplinary engineering and construction environment
- Excellent communication and coordination skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with ASME NQA-1 quality requirements
Experience supporting:
- Department of Energy (DOE)
- Nuclear facilities or safety-related systems
- Knowledge of material availability, procurement, and vendor documentation
Familiarity with:
- P&IDs and piping line lists
- Piping stress requirements
- Construction and field execution support
- Previous experience serving as a lead or principal designer on large, complex projects
