Technical Writer with a strong engineering or technical background for a great client of ours in
St Petersburg, FL.
This is on site 5 days a week in St Petersburg, FL. Salary is in the 65,000 range.
- This role is responsible for developing comprehensive machine documentation and technical materials that support manufacturing, service, safety, and end users.
- The ideal candidate is comfortable working closely with engineering and production teams and translating complex technical concepts into clear, accurate documentation.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain machine operation, installation, and maintenance manuals for industrial packaging equipment
- Interpret and document engineering designs, including mechanical assemblies, electrical systems, and control components
- Create detailed parts lists and supporting illustrations using bills of material (BOMs), engineering drawings, and CAD outputs
- Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Service, and Quality teams to ensure technical accuracy and consistency
- Create and assist with the development of work instructions, procedures, and technical documentation for internal departments
- Review and update documentation to reflect engineering changes, product updates, and process improvements
Working Environment:
- Working in both a climate-controlled office as well as ambient temperature shop facility
- Occasional work in production areas to observe equipment operation and verify documentation accuracy
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, Technical Communication or related technical field with 3+ year technical writing experience
- Or Associates Degree and 5+ years relevant manufacturing, engineering support, or technical writing experience
- Education instead of work experience will be considered (with writing samples).
- Proficiency in SolidWorks or similar CAD software.
Requirements:
- High level of proficiency with MS Office Suite (specifically MS Word) and computerized systems
- Experience in the manufacturing industry strongly preferred
- Ability to translate complex engineering and technical data into clear, user-friendly documentation
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills at all levels of the organization
- Skilled at prioritization and multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines with minimal supervision
