Minimum Qualifications
Education
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or related discipline from an ABET-accredited university
Industry Requirement â Nuclear Experience (Required)
- Direct experience supporting commercial nuclear power, advanced reactor, or DOE nuclear projects
- Demonstrated experience performing ASME Section III nuclear piping design and stress analysis
- Experience limited to fossil power, chemical, oil & gas, or non-nuclear piping codes alone will not meet requirements
Licensure & Career Development
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred
- Candidates actively working toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure strongly preferred
- PE license desirable for advancement to next engineering level
Technical Experience
- Minimum 8 years relevant engineering experience.
- Demonstrated commercial nuclear piping design and stress analysis experience is required.
- Demonstrated application of ASME Section III NB, NC, or ND-3600 rules
- Required experience using:
- CAESAR II or Bentley AutoPIPE
- ANSYS component analysis experience preferred
- ASME Section III NF pipe support experience preferred
Position Summary
The
Senior Piping Design Engineer performs design, analysis, and integration of nuclear safety-related Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) piping systems supporting a modular Advanced Light Water Reactor (ALWR).
This position is part of the nuclear design engineering organization responsible for developing technical requirements and associated design parameters for reactor systems in accordance with
ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission regulations, and nuclear quality assurance programs.
All engineering activities are performed within a controlled environment compliant with
ASME NQA-1 and 10 CFR 50 Appendix B requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform design and stress analysis of ASME Section III Class 1, 2, and 3 nuclear piping systems
- Execute piping stress analysis using Bentley AutoPIPE or CAESAR II nuclear-qualified software
- Perform piping component analysis using ANSYS in accordance with NB-3200 requirements (preferred)
- Design and analyze pipe supports in accordance with ASME Section III NF
- Perform static and dynamic analyses including:
- Deadweight and pressure loads
- Thermal expansion and thermal gradients
- Seismic response spectrum and time-history analysis
- Fluid transient loading
- Prepare and review nuclear engineering calculations, specifications, drawings, and technical documentation
- Collaborate with design teams utilizing Siemens NX CAD models
- Lead evaluations of piping routing solutions and support configurations to meet Section III stress criteria
- Provide technical mentoring to early-career engineers
- Interpret complex project scope and multidisciplinary technical interfaces
- Maintain required nuclear engineering qualifications and training
