division to help build the next generation Finance organization for IATA. The

The
Manager, Portfolio Accounting is accountable for end‑to‑end accounting
ownership and financial stewardship of an assigned portfolio, ensuring
high‑quality reporting, strong governance, scalable processes, and effective
business support in an increasingly complex environment.
What your day would be like
Portfolio Financial Stewardship & Close Governance
- Serve as the single accountable owner for all accounting positions (including revenue, deferred revenue, accruals and provisions) within the assigned portfolio, regardless of where transactional processing occurs.
- Lead the month-end close and reporting cycle for the portfolio; coordinate deliverables with FP&A, business leads and Shared Services to meet SLA/milestones; ensure accurate, complete and timely reporting under IFRS and internal policy.
- Apply established close governance practices, including issue triage, judgement logs, post‑close reviews, and continuous close improvement actions.
- Prepare material journal entries, key reconciliations and adjustments; ensure cash flow impacts are understood.
- Perform preliminary accounting assessments (e.g., revenue recognition under IFRS 15, capitalization and intangible assets under IAS 38, provisions/estimates); and escalate high-complexity matters to Senior Manager/Technical Accounting/GPO as appropriate.
- Oversee contract/statement-of-work reviews for accounting implications (revenue timing, capitalization, onerous terms, variable consideration) and raise compliance or risk items for resolution.
Strategic Business Partnering & Decision Support
- Act as the Finance contact for the portfolio; providingaccounting‑driven insights, risk identification, and impact analysis to support informed business and FP&A decisions.
- Participate in monthly portfolio performance reviews with FP&A to ensure timely and high quality close and reporting.
- Support business cases and strategic initiatives with financial and accounting analysis and implementation solutions.
- Represent Corporate Finance on cross-functional project teams (products, operations, systems); ensure requirements reflect fiduciary standards, IFRS and policy, and that enable automation and scalability.
- Accountable for translating approved accounting conclusions into operational reality (system configuration, close procedures, controls, and documentation) in partnership with GPO, Shared Services and Systems teams.
Governance, Controls & Audit Readiness
- Maintain strong internal control over financial reporting across the portfolio; ensure evidence, documentation and ownership are in place.
- Supports governance, controls, and audit activities for the portfolio in coordination with senior finance stakeholders. Support audit requests (internal/external) for the portfolio and remediation activities on time.
Process Excellence, Standardization & Automation
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and support implementation in collaboration with GPO and ERP specialists.
- Participate in UAT and ERP changes impacting the portfolio, providing input as required.
- Promote data quality and analytics adoption (dashboards, self-service) to improve visibility and forecast accuracy.
Ways of Working
- Provide daily guidance and task coordination for accounting technicians and/or interns; set objectives, coach performance.
- Model a culture of ownership, accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement; reinforce Finance standards and behaviors.
- Establish a predictable operating rhythm with stakeholders (close calendar, review cadences, issue logs, action tracking).
- Ensure portfolio‑specific accounting knowledge, judgments, and procedures are documented, reviewed, and transferable to mitigate key person risk.
We would love to hear from you if
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field;
- CPA (or equivalent) is an asset.
- 5–7+ years of progressive experience in controllership/corporate accounting or audit, including month-end close ownership.
- Demonstrated experience in business partnering with operational leaders and FP&A, translating financials into actions.
- Working knowledge of IFRS with ability to perform preliminary assessments on IFRS 15, IAS 38 and estimates; experience escalating/partnering on complex matters.
- Proficiency with ERP (e.g., SAP/Oracle), reporting/reconciliation tools and BI dashboards (e.g., Power BI/Tableau); experience with workflow/automation a plus.
- Strong analytical and critical‑thinking abilities; able to evaluate ambiguous situations.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate financial concepts for non‑financial audiences.
- Proactive mindset with demonstrated ability to challenge the status quo and propose solutions.
- Strong stakeholder management and relationship‑building skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
