Manager, Payroll leads a team responsible for accurate, timely, and compliant payroll operations across multiple complex payroll areas, including Expat, Ground, Flight Attendant, Pension and Benefit, GL Reconciliation and Reporting, Tax, and Garnishment processing. This role oversees daily payroll execution, resolves escalated issues, strengthens controls, and drives process improvements that support operational excellence and a strong employee experience. The ideal candidate brings deep payroll knowledge, strong people leadership, sound judgment, and the ability to work effectively across a complex, fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining a high-speed internet connection and safe working environment in the event this role is required to be performed remotely.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead payroll operations across multiple specialized payroll functions, including Expat, Ground, Flight Attendant, Pension and Benefit, GL Reconciliation and Reporting, Tax, and Garnishment processing
- Manage, coach, and develop a team responsible for accurate and timely payroll execution
- Ensure payroll processes comply with internal controls, company policies, and applicable legal and regulatory requirements
- Oversee the resolution of complex payroll issues, discrepancies, and escalations
- Partner with HR, Benefits, Finance, Accounting, Tax, Legal, vendors, and business leaders to resolve issues and improve service delivery
- Lead payroll reconciliations, reporting, and audit-readiness activities
- Monitor payroll performance, identify risks and trends, and implement process improvements that strengthen accuracy, compliance, and efficiency
- Support system updates, testing, and year-end or quarter-end payroll activities
- Serve as a key escalation point for high-risk or sensitive payroll matters
- Promote a high-performing team culture focused on accountability, service, and continuous improvement
What You Need To Succeed (Minimum Qualifications)
- Must possess authorization to work and live in Jamaica at the time of application. Delta does not sponsor.
- Experience leading payroll operations or related shared services, finance, accounting, or HR operations teams.
- Strong knowledge of payroll processing, compliance, controls, reconciliations, and issue resolution.
- Experience managing complex payroll processes across multiple employee groups or specialized functions.
- Must be able to travel to and from the United States and other countries as required for training and business meetings.
- Strong people leadership, coaching, and team development skills.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and make sound decisions in a deadline-driven environment.
- Experience using payroll systems, reporting tools, and spreadsheet-based analysis.

- Possesses a high school diploma, GED, or high school equivalency.
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Experience leading specialized payroll areas such as expatriate payroll, tax, garnishments, pension and benefit payroll, or payroll accounting and reconciliation
- Knowledge of payroll tax reporting, compliance requirements, and audit practices
- Experience with payroll system implementations, process improvement, or transformation initiatives
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or similar certification
- Experience partnering with vendors and cross-functional stakeholders in a complex operating environment
