Position Summary:
The Component Design Engineer is part of the Mature Programs Engineering Team providing design changes to both the T56 and Helicopter Programs.
The Component Design Engineer shall create engineering solutions that satisfy functional and physical requirements symptomatic of Product System and Sub-System level environments. Crucially, the engineered solutions must exhibit robustness for manufacturing capability.
The Component Design Engineer is responsible for the on-time delivery and quality of component design definition artefacts i.e. documents, models, definitions that meet system level and sub-system requirements. The Component Design Engineer will participate within an IPT described by Product Lifecycle System (PLS) and operate in accordance with applicable Rolls-Royce Management System (RRMS) policies and processes.
The Component Design Engineer is responsible for sub-system integration of the technical activities for their design solutions and enabling lifecycle profitability through the Supply Chain Design.
What you will be doing:
- Owning component design changes through the required design gates by offering solutions to mitigate safety risks, clarify design requirements, or unlock producibility to make our factories flow.
- Collaborate with a variety of other business units and systems groups, such as Performance, Thermals, Air Systems, Materials, Dynamics and Component Stress, Verification & Validation to justify your projects.
- Solve complex and ambiguous problems
- Build engineering justification for disposition of non-conformances to be captured in DEV AEMs
- Identify and support improvement opportunities to reduce MRB and improve producibility of Helo and T56 parts
Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 1+ years of experience in Aerospace, Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering OR;
- A Masters degree in Engineering OR;
- PhD in Engineering
- In order to be considered for this opportunity, you must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident
Preferred Requirements:
- Possess strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a high pressure and fast paced environment
- Experience with the Rolls-Royce Indianapolis MRB Web App and general MRB processes
- Technical writing ability / experience
- FEA experience in ANSYS
- Design experience from multiple component areas (i.e. rotating wheels, structures, compressor vanes, etc.)
