Archer is an aerospace company based in San Jose, California building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with a mission to advance the benefits of sustainable air mobility. What You’ll Do:
- Take direction from the Manager, Flight Test Mainenance to complete mechanical engineering tasks such as design, testing, validation, facilitation, and/or general problem solving
- Leads small to medium scale projects as assigned
- Utilizes 3D CAD software to design mechanical components and assemblies for their release through the engineering process
- Creates engineering drawings for manufacturing, assembly, and integration
- Makes use of fundamental component design principles and hand calculations to theoretically validate component strength and performance
- Utilizes finite element analysis (FEA) software to analyze stresses in load bearing components
- Creates test plans for design validation
- Hosts meetings for project definition, design reviews, and weekly tag-ups
- Utilizes rapid-prototyping processes to test form, fitment, and functionality of components
- Facilitates system integration to provide quick guidance and feedback
- Coordinates with vendors to inquire about products or services and to define design requirements
What You Need:
- Mechanical Engineering, B.S.
- 3+ years of aerospace engineering experience
- Required Engineering Skill set
- Solidworks, AutoCAD, CATIA, Fusion or other similar CAD aptitude
- Engineering structural/thermal analysis (FEMAP/NX NASTRAN, COMSOL)
- Computational fluid dynamics/CFD (OpenFoam, Ansys)
- MATLAB/Simulink
- Microcontroller programming (Arduino)
- Control system design/PID
- Design for manufacturing/assembly
- Development of maintenance and repair procedures and documentation
- Sheet metal design
- Composite design
- Hydraulic system design
- Experience working with high voltage systems
- Knowledge of wiring techniques and best practices (crimping, routing, securing, etc.)
- Driving of aircraft tugs, carts, and lifts within an airport environment
- A collaborative attitude, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and meticulous attention to detail with the ability to communicate and build cross-functional relationships
- Work with all levels of personnel and effectively interact with technicians and engineers
- Working Hours: Ability to work a flexible schedule may include nights, weekends, and holidays
- Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time
Bonus Qualifications:
- Prior experience with electric aircraft/eVTOL
- Working knowledge of composite airframe and repair
- Experience working with CAD, NX, Confluence, JIRA
- Metalworking (welding [MIG, TIG, Stick], milling, lathe work, plasma cutting, oxy/acetylene)
- Woodworking (Table saw, chop saw, planar, jointer, drill press, CNC, etc)
- 3D Printing

We drive a pay-for-performance culture and reward performance that supports the Company’s business strategy. For this position we are targeting a base pay between $94,080 -$117,600. Actual compensation offered will be determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
