Purpose of the position
The Strategic Procurement Manager Construction Services is responsible for leading procurement efforts for construction-related projects across all Lufthansa Group Airlines. This role focuses on sourcing high-quality construction materials, services, and specialized equipment, negotiating contracts with contractors and suppliers, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations; ensuring the successful delivery of construction projects that meet Lufthansa Group’s quality and sustainability standards.
Your tasks
- Leadership in Procurement Projects and Tenders:
- Lead and manage high-value procurement projects and tenders within the Construction category for all Lufthansa Group airlines.
- Negotiate and finalize contracts with suppliers, ensuring favourable terms and compliance with legal, regulatory and zoning requirements specific to the construction industry.
- Advise on and implement the most suitable procurement models such as traditional or design-build, based on project complexity, client preferences, budget constraints, and desired outcomes. Utilize RIBA models to facilitate effective decision-making during project planning.
- Commodity and Supplier Strategy Development:
- Identify, expand, and further develop the corresponding commodity in alignment with the developed commodity and/or supplier strategy.
- Identify potential cost reductions within the commodity to enhance overall efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Supplier Management and Negotiation:
- Lead supplier management activities for Construction suppliers, including the negotiation of supply concepts for the aftermarket.
- Ensure a sustainable supply chain for operating airlines within the Lufthansa Group by securing reliable supplier agreements.
- Proactively manage risks associated with supplier performance and material deliveries, implementing strategies to mitigate disruptions.
- Reporting and Analysis:
- Prepare decision papers, board reports, and detailed analyses to support strategic decisions.
- Utilize and update procurement analytic tools to enhance data-driven decision-making processes.
- Contract Performance Management:
- Conduct active contract performance management with suppliers, ensuring adherence to contractual agreements for pricing, performance, and bonuses.
- Address and negotiate claims with suppliers in cases of structural deviations to maintain contractual integrity.
- Special Projects Management:
- Manage and perform special projects as assigned, contributing to the overall strategic goals of the procurement department.
- Sustainability
- Champion sustainable procurement practices to support the decarbonization of construction activities.
- Collaborate closely with engineering and project management teams to make informed material and supplier choices, positioning procurement as a key strategic partner in achieving environmental and business goals.
Your profile
- Completed university/university of applied sciences degree with a focus on Construction (Architecture/ Civil Engineer)
- 5 Years of proven professional experience, preferably within procurement activities.
- Strong communication skills (both written and verbal) in English and Dutch; French is a surplus.
- Strong negotiation skills.
- Proficiency in financial analysis and cost management related to construction procurement.
- Familiarity with construction project management software and tools is an advantage.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to oversee multiple high-value construction projects simultaneously.
- Knowledge of Construction and or procurement of construction services.
- Understanding of legal, regulatory, and zoning requirements specific to the construction industry.
- Being eligible to live and work in Belgium.
