Key Responsibilities
The Senior Manager of Transportation and Logistics leads a team of logistics analysts that work to enable transportation and logistics solutions to support the movement of material across the United enterprise. The Senior Manager is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the team, setting goals, and working with team members to advance initiatives that improve transit times and carrier performance to meet the operational needs of the airline. The Senior Manager works with their customers within the enterprise to understand their needs and make departmental course corrections to deliver good customer service.
- Responsible for setting strategic direction for the organization, building a vision and effectively communicating direction to team members
- Set and measure goals and lead change management to achieve objectives
- Guide team of Transportation Analysts to ensure overall team cohesion and direction
- Establish KPIs and measure performance to drive process improvement within the logistics provider network
- Implement technology to optimize transportation decision making and eliminate delivery delays and errors
- Implement analytics and dashboards that allow for effective monitoring of the global operation
- Use data driven decision making to optimize the logistics network plan to control cost, improve on-time delivery, reduce variability, and hold transportation carriers accountable to their SLAs
- Work with departmental customers across the enterprise (Technical Operations, Procurement, Legal, Cargo, Catering, Airport Operations, etc.) to build good relationships and understand logistics pain points
- Develop transportation strategies to support their requirements and respond with course corrections that deliver good customer service, improve delivery, and reduce errors
- Accomplish site visits to meet with customers and understand the unique constraints of each operation
- Ensure customers are well educated on United logistics processes
- Responsible for administration of the enterprise transportation budget, negotiating and handling carrier contracts and service agreements, and implementing the logistics network plan
- Work with internal customers to understand future changes to their operational landscape, adjust logistics network to fit, and continually optimize and diversify the network of carriers/providers
- Review transportation budget to implement general cost controls and ensure consistency across carriers and internal customers
- Work with Procurement to implement consistent transportation contracts that accurately define responsibilities and obligations, and hold carriers accountable for a high level of service

What’s Needed To Succeed (Minimum Qualifications)
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Aviation, technical field or related subject area or 4 years of relevant work experience
- 2+ years as an organizational leader
- 5+ years of transportation experience
- Knowledgeable of various modes of transportation and their respective Tariff application
- Knowledgeable of import and export requirements and customs regulations
- Comprehensive understanding of Supply Chain operations and Management
- Strong Leadership, coaching and communication skills
- Statistical Analysis and Process Control (SPC)
- Self-Motivated Engrained Continuous Improvement experience
- Up to 35% travel
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
- Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
- Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):
- Master's degree in Business Management, Supply Chain, Engineering or other technical or scientific field or 6 years of relevant work experience
- 5+ years as an organizational leader
- Contract Negotiations, execution of Request for Quotes, and carrier selections
- Experience in leading a team in Airline Transportation Management
- Data analytics, e.g., SQL
The base pay range for this role is $124,735.00 to $169,950.00.
The base salary range/hourly rate listed is dependent on job-related, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, education, and skills. This position is also eligible for bonus and/or long-term incentive compensation awards.
