The Staff Embedded Software Engineer on this Platform Software team leads the architecture, design, and integration of complex software for displays and video systems in commercial aircraft. This role provides high-level technical leadership, bridging the gap between hardware and software to ensure scalable, stable, and high-performance system resources.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and implementation of software for embedded systems, moving projects from initial requirements through to full production
- Drive the evolution of the Yocto-based Linux environment, including board bring-up, kernel development, and patch integration
- Oversee code and design reviews, participate in peer reviews, and establish best practices for the DevOps/CI/CD pipeline
- Interface directly with hardware design teams to integrate and validate new product designs while supporting cross-functional software quality assurance
- Analyze system performance to enhance efficiency and stability, particularly in resource-constrained embedded environments
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience (Electrical Engineering training is advantageous)
- 10+ years of experience in a similar embedded role
- Expert-level experience with Linux embedded operating systems, including board bring-up, driver experience, and kernel maturity updates
- Advanced proficiency in C, C++, Python, and bash/sh
- Deep expertise with 32- and 64-bit ARM SoCs, including boot loaders, microcontrollers, and device drivers
- Mastery of common embedded bus functionality (I2C, PCIe, SPI, MDIO, CAN) and the ability to interpret PCB schematics
- Full video stack experience in a Linux graphics environment (KMS/Mesa/OpenGL, Weston/Wayland)
- Deep knowledge of MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.264, and H.265 video formats and Digital Rights Management (DRM)
- Experience with formal Engineering Requirements documentation and processes
Benefits
The starting pay range for this position is $128,900 - $154,700 per year however, the base pay offered may vary depending on the level of the position, skills, experience, job-related knowledge, and location.
