Role Introduction
Reports to: Director Digital and IT
As a key member of Cathay IT and Digital leadership team, this role will be accountable for leading the strategy, architecture and delivery of Cathay’s technology solutions that underpin customer experience, employee enablement, safety outcomes and operational performance. This key position will define and drive the end‑to‑end technology roadmap — setting standards, shaping capabilities, uplifting practices and guiding multi‑disciplinary teams across solution design, user experience, development, quality assurance, implementation and continuous evolution.
Act as a strategic partner to business leaders across the Cathay Group, using the experience to translate complex business needs into coherent, innovative and sustainable solutions. This involves stewarding enterprise solution architecture, governing data integration and engineering capabilities, and ensuring cybersecurity and risk requirements are fully embedded.
Overseeing permanent, contract, on‑shore and off‑shore teams, this key role will cultivate a culture of service excellence, operational discipline and innovation. Your leadership will accelerate transformation, strengthen resilience, and bring to life technology solutions that help move our customers, our people and our business forward.
Key Responsibilities
- Set and steer enterprise-wide technology solution strategies and standards to enhance IT effectiveness
- Lead and oversee teams across solution design, development, data integration and end‑to‑end project delivery to realise business outcomes
- Direct the exploitation and optimisation of installed technologies and capabilities.
- Build strong partnerships with business stakeholders to ensure technology solutions meet desired outcomes
- Define the technology roadmap informed by business input, innovation and emerging technologies
- Govern end‑to‑end solution architecture to ensure alignment with enterprise architecture principles and business strategy
- Identify innovative technologies and opportunities to enhance the enterprise IT landscape and formulate comprehensive technical solutions
- Lead end‑to‑end IT solution delivery, ensuring solutions are fit for purpose, cost‑effective and compliant with cybersecurity, risk and technology standards
- Oversee continuous optimisation of solution delivery processes, models and vendor spend to improve speed, resilience and cost efficiency
- Stay current with evolving technology trends and partner with digital transformation teams and stakeholders to translate insights into standards, alignment and strategic direction
Requirements
- Tertiary education in a relevant discipline
- Minimum 20 years of relevant work experience, preferably in a sizable multinational corporation
- Minimum 10 years of management experience, including at least 5 years in a senior-level management role leading multi‑disciplinary teams across design, delivery, security, quality assurance, implementation, operational support and maintenance
- Strong strategic development and planning skills
- Experience managing budgets, vendor portfolios and strategic sourcing, including requests for proposals, contract negotiation, service-level agreements and managed services
- Proven ability to lead in matrix organisations and influence across business units, shared services and subsidiaries
- Demonstrated ability to manage material cyber incidents, including executive decision‑making, crisis communications alignment, regulatory considerations and post‑incident uplift
- Strong influencing skills across executives and business leaders to drive adoption of standards, secure funding and ensure consistent governance and compliance
- Demonstrated leadership and engagement skills with the ability to motivate a sizable and diverse team and hold employees accountable for department goals.
- Experience building a high‑performing, inclusive organisation through recruitment, succession planning, coaching, performance management and capability development
- Ability to delegate and empower effectively, fostering accountability, ownership and a culture of operational excellence
- Ability to lead large teams through change with clear accountability and motivation
- Excellent influencing, communication, collaboration and storytelling skills
